Forums - Nintendo Discussion - super mario galaxy was the best mario spinoff ever

it was an amazing spinoff game, but it wasn't a mainline game. nsmb wii is the mainline game. they were both great games, but they have less in common than people give them credit for.

that is all...

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=76669&page=1

you can view a few screenshots from the game in my photo album here; http://www.vgchartz.com/photos/album.php?album=2312

That makes no sense....

Are Mario 64 and sunshine spin-off Mario games too?

Not really no.

Those are the main Mario games:

This is a very random thread. I like it.

Yeah, it was 18 years from Super Mario World to New Super Mario Bros. Wii... so it was good to see the king go back to what made him a world wide super star. SM64, SMS, and Galaxy 1 & 2 are part of a different world, with different rules and different values. It's good to see both coexisting side by side now, and I for one hope they keep it this way for years to come. I don't want to wait until 2028 (!) for the next console 2D Mario.

And with this year, Sonic will end his 16 year Console 2D drought with Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Of course Sega is too blinded to see that fans are still waiting and love Sonic, and will gladly purchase him at retail. But go ahead, make it DD only Sega... that'll be a great way to start.

im left with no words
how are those games spinofs
its a mainline mario

I would argue that Main Series Mario games take place in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario 64 kind of did, (within paintings that were within the Mushroom Kingdom), but Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2 did/are not.

I consider any Mario platformer part of the main series. Im looking at you too Super Princess Peach

Donkey Kong Jr. and the Wrecking Crew belong here too, but besides for that this is right.

Um, I disagree with this topic on 2 maybe 3 aspects

I like Mario 64 better than (by a lot) galaxy (or any other mario for that matter SHAWK). And yes my very first mario was Super Mario Bros on NES when I was 3... so I did not start with 3D mario.

I'd assume Nintendo thought Mario 64, Sunshine and galaxy weren't spinoffs. Also, I will agree with you that the mechanics are different. By a .lot. But, I don't think nintendo itself would consider it a spinoff.

3. Would you call metroid prime a spinoff too? Zelda's mechanics are similar in 2D and 3d... so I won't argue either way on that
