I can't talk for the how legit the source on this site is but this site is pretty reputable and popular amongst Japanese gamers.  Found this today looking on there.  I have to admit that the source isn't solid, so this should probably be put more under rumor.

3D dot game heroes sells (probably shipped? Doesn't really specify) 120,000 outside of Japan.  They seem to be happy with it.

120 000 shipped maybe no way in hell the game sold that much week one. That would be more then resonance of fate, star ocean last hope and even wkc did and they had way more buzz for being rpgs

Maybe retro zelda clone has more appeal to larger crowd than sub-par JRPGs?
