Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Will this Xbox 360 die too!

If you have read my threads you would know my xbox 360 got the red rings and i sent it in for repaur. i just saw the serial number of my new console on the website.

I found this website which basically tells you what xbox 360 model you got

http://xbox360glitches.com/2009/04/working-out-the-xbox-360-manufacturing-date-and-serial-number/

Anyways i found my new xbox 360 is made in 2006 same as the one i sent in.

It is actually made a week earlier than the on i sent in.

And it is made in taiwan.

So what type of xbox 360 do you expect this to be. Will it cause scratches? I just ordered RDR so i dont want that to happen. Will it be loud? How long will it last?

Yes. Your Xbox will die. In fact, every single person you have ever met will die, too. And, if the Xbox or the people you've met don't die before you die, you will die first.

Next time, get a Nintendo DS.

seriously though is this a descent model. i hop it isnt loud because i fully want to enjoy RDR. Am i better off buying a new xbox 360

haha it won't be any quieter than your last one. That's for sure.
Turn up the volume and after the first 60 seconds you will forget about the sound anyway.

My 360 is from 2006 as well. Died 2 times so far, but it's very easy to repair, o no worries, even if your warranty runs out.

Install your games to the HDD and your console will run as quiet as a mouse's fart. It may still die (my 2008 360 disc drive failed despite being a Jasper) but hopefully it'll last longer. Despite the fact that I've had problems with my 360, I don't fear a malfunction at all. I say dump that older 360 and get a new one. It's worth the peace of mind.

from what i understand microsoft made a new mother board to refurb old xbox 360's with when this problem came about so I think you will be slightly better off than before, but i also read about a lot of refurbs going rrod too. i believe this article talks about it. http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/29/fabled-opus-motherboard-appears-in-xbox-360/

My first 360 was probably from 2005 or 2006 as I got it in Q2 of 2006. I died in Q4 2007, back then my store warranty still worked and I got a new one from the shelves the next day. That xbox died in Q2 2008! Then my store warranty had been declared invallid by Microsof tand I had to sent it in. The xbox I got back was a 2006 model but I guess they've did something to it as it has been running fine since Q2 2008. So I dont think the model year means a lot when you get it from the repair centre.

Mines from 2006 and it died in 2008 twice so 2 years isn't that bad. It hasn't broken since I got it repaired however it makes a lot more noise and it's quite noticeable.

It should be more or less as loud as the one you had before. When mine got repaired I got the exact same model back because mine got a Rockstar sticker on it. It now has a service date on the back instead of a manufacturing date it was made in late 2006 also.

your best bet is to mod your console. Add some fans to it, maybe purchase a new case where the holes are already in place so you dont have to make holes in the case yourself etc. I have an 07' model and it's worked quite well for me.
