Forums - Sales Discussion - Android market share surpasses iPhone's, NPD says

Android OS is at 28%, a gain of 8% since last quarter.  Apple iPhone is at 21%, relatively flat since last quarter.

Looks like the Smartphone race is getting interesting.  Stiff competition will hopefully lead to lower prices and better products for everyone.

Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Leaving this thread open, as the other thread 'title' doesn't talk about the topic at hand.

ooooohhhh burrrrrnn darth!

OT: GO GOOGLE!!!

I currently have a Blackberry curve that I bought due to the buy 1 get 1 free deal from last October, but my next phone will definitely be an Android based phone. Even if Verizon has the iPhone by then as I detest Apple's policies of locking down their phones.

Funny how the same policy that allowed MS to destroy them in the PC market will allow Google to destroy them in the mobile department as well. They just don't learn.

Good deal for Google.

However, until they can make their market place UI as nice as iTunes, its going to be difficult to get users to buy games en-masse. As it stands, iPhone users buy a lot, and I mean a lot more apps than Android users do.

Until that happens, this is a smaller note than it appears.

But I am glad to see that the phones are selling well.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Wait what, why was my thread closed, majority of people here see Apple as their arch-rival so i wanted to keep the good news almost a surprise. = S

I agree, though more on a dedicated PC programme for backing up and managing files. Media Go works for my SE X10, but not for contacts etc (though those are synced with google). I would prefer to have a dedicated manager for my phone

Also, I am not sure if this is just sales over the past 3 months, or install bases

There is NO way its total install base in the US. Android systems sold around 8 million units through December of last year...Compared to (most likely) 20-25 million iPhones in the US.

It does speak to the pace of sales increases among Android phones, though.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Yay. iPhones are overpriced and crap but people think they they are amazing. Especially the first edition ones.
