Forums - Sony Discussion - Geohots 3.30 Custom Firmware is released

This used to be a good post but it broke the site so I had to fix it and it lost all meaning, sorry.

Yeah....I think you have that right. Also, if you like having that right, you shouldn't bother ever updating your PS3 since they shouldn't have the right to mess with the hardware at all. It's not like they own it or have any business doing updates on it anyways.

Updates are a way of promoting the hardware of the PS3 and it's in SONY's best interest to bend over and take it up the ass form their customers. If they didn't have any updates and it was like when it launched, the PS3 would be one big pile of shit and not worth more than $150 given what the competition has.

Also I can't help but laugh that you think firmware actually alters hardware at all. Firmware is software, plain and simple, it just happens to be software that's embedded in the hardware. The hardware itself doesn't change at all.

I don't understand why he's putting so much effort into keeping an exploit around that isn't really capable of doing anything

I guess like Ebert and video games, you just don't get it.

What's there to get?

If you need to ask then you'll never understand.

Completely off-topic, but you're either trolling or your logic is so screwy that it comes off that way.  >_>

WOW

That's one of the most retarded things I've ever heard, that's like thinking it's ok to go around shooting people with a gun because you paid for it

Is anyone stopping me from doing so? No? Didn't think so.

If I feel like it, I can go buy a gun and start shooting people with it and nothing will stop me. I can also go buy a knife and start stabbing people and nothing can stop me form doing so. I can buy a cast iron pan and start bludgeoning people to death, and no one will stop me. In fact, I can readily buy a ton of metal that moves at 100 miles per hour and mow people down with it as well.

I don't know in what fucked up world you live in, but that is now how the real world works. In fact, the sole purpose of a gun is to shoot people with.

i don't know in what world you live, but in my world other people with guns will stop you!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

i really hope Sony adds a new line to their DRM, and never mentions it, in base firmware that newer games understand that will allow them to only work on official firmware updates.

I agree 100%

I'd get a good laugh out of it.

Granted, some people wouldn't, but that would just make it more hilarious to me. :D

I hope you all enjoy lower software sales due to people that refuse to take it in the ass from Sony. Im not buying another PS3 game until this whole CFW is figured out and there are many old PS3 owners that are doing the same.

i'm still buying games after the update because i don't and didn't care about the otherOS crap.  this past saturday i paid in full for LP2 and 3D Dot Game Hero; put down $5 bucks each on ModNation, Red Dead Redemption.  this G(whatever) is an idiot. i couldn't care less what he does.

By shooting me with their guns. Which is exactly my point.

Just a typo mixed with trying to think of something to say too early in the morning for my own good. And honestly, yes, it is in Sony's best interest to do the updates, but if you don't want to do the updates, it's your perogative. You can either update, or not bother playing online/new games. That's what the real choice is. Hacking the system, have fun with that, if you get caught, I'm sure Sony will find a way to ban people (like Microsoft with the 360) and the people who suffer are going to cry like a little bitches (like the people did when their 360's were pretty much rendered as useless). If not then all the power to the hacking people. I'll be slightly disappointed that I won't get to laugh at them, but at the same time, I really don't care.

Well Microsoft are a bunch of dicks, so saying "I'm a little less than a huge dick" doesn't really help since you are still a big dick. However that did not impede any of their features already present and  advertised. What makes up in the "dick" department with SONY is that theyr are removing making you choose which functionality to remove, games or OS, and that is not how it works. Thankfully people have their heads on straight and are suing the shit out of them.

Only a handful of people really honestly even utilized the Linux option before it was removed. It was only made an issue when Sony said they were taking the option away. It's stupid as hell to be annoyed over having something removed that has absolutely no signifigance to most people just because the option was removed. It's essentially the spleen of the PS3. Not really necessary, it's nice to have around but it serves no purpose and can become a real pain if an issue goes unresolved.

I can understand why the few people who used Linux would be annoyed but at the same time, it's a VIDEO GAME CONSOLE. I don't see why people would need Linux on the PS3 in the first place since most people who use the PS3 also have a computer (Or am I being a little too bold with that statement).

Oh here we go, I would love for someone to actually make me a good case without saying "no one really used it." I seriously hope that is not the cornerstone of your argument, because it is an utter failure as far as arguments go. It's a feature, it got removed, end of story.

Also haven't you heard? IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING!!111ELEVEN!11ONE

More seriously, that statement would have been utterly laughed at if most people with a PS3 had a PC as well, because the PS3 does a tiny teeny fraction of what a PC can do, and even that is not as good. So no, given the popularity of that retarded statement, I doubt too many have a computer, or at least know what to do with it.
