Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony claim PS3 sales up 298%

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) sent along some sales data today for how its PlayStation business fared last week, including the busy Black Friday shopping period. As a whole, PlayStation brand unit sales during the week increased by 178 percent and sales dollars increased by 154 percent.

Furthermore, Sony said that on a year-on-year basis, PS3 hardware sales were up 245 percent compared to Black Friday sales last year. And since November 2, when the new 40GB SKU and the reduced in price ($499) 80 GB model both were available, Sony said PS3 hardware sales are up 298 percent.

Officials did not provide software sales data, but we would guess that top titles such as Guitar Hero III, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed and PS3 exclusives such as Ratchet & Clank Future and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune were big drivers for the PS3.

As for Sony's other platforms, the company said that PSP hardware sales increased by 136 percent compared to the previous week, while PS2 hardware sales increased by 287 percent compared to the previous week.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Considering the Ps3 was in near death supply last year at this time, and they hadnt even launched in Europe, they should easily have beaten last year.

umm... this is just for America.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

This does make Novembers NPD results a little more interesting but 400k+ should be minimum for Sony in November unless they want a total bombing holiday in the US.

Europe are coming to the party, now if the US doesn't drop the ball the PS3 will do just fine.

Sony also advertised their asses off in November with this 40GB sku along with Assassins Creed, Call of Duty 4, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. So the results should be very interesting.

Opps, This is for NA. I can't edit that into the title but it clearly says SCEA in the article.

This means US ps3 sales should be about 250k for the week

Wow if this is how much PS3 went up then I can't wait to see how much 360 and Wii go up haha.

Sony claims lots of bullshit. Just last week they claimed something like this and it turned out they were counting PS2+PS3 sales not just PS3 sales.

Ill wait for independent confirmation.
