My father was gaming back before people called them "video games" and he didn't stop until about 2001. He played and owned more games than many people on this board. There is such a thingn as a lapsed gamer, or a gamer who just ceases to enjoy the hobby. Coming back and playing the games isn't some quality that's inherent to you, it's about whether or not games appeal to you. Without appealing games, no one would play.

I'm not quite sure wtf you just said... but i will make it simple.

Gamer's don't just give up, they come back... if your dad is a true gamer he will come back to games.. it may take him a few years but he will come back.  If he does not then he was never a true gamer.

Either way... True gamer's never die

There's no such thing as a "true gamer". Just gamers who ontinue to have games that they want to play. If you didn't have any games you wanted to play then you wouldn't game, and if you think differently then you're lyingn to yourself.

He's been off the wagon for ten years. The Wii didnt' change it. The 360, the DS, the Cube, the PS2, the Xbox - all didn't change it. If he comes back it will be in th far-flung future. Sure as shit won't be soon.

My vgcharts acquaintance... i am sorry to inform you, but you are not a true gamer.  I am not trying to argue with you, this is just the way it is, and your last statement proves it.

To give you an example, i am, for better or for worse, a "gamer", i have a horrible addiction.  I play my games, if i get bored i think about what new games i can buy, or download, or what old game i can install and reminisce on old memories.

I don't mean this in the slightest as insult but if you can just give up gaming and never come back then you are most certainly NOT a gamer.

EDIT: I mean your dad, not you

Well of course I'm not a "true gamer". Because there's no such thing. I'm a gamer - I game - it's my primary source of entertainment behind books - but the thing you're describing? Doesn't exist. You're taling about an adddict who clings to one medium as his addiction. There's a difference.

Gamers stop gaming. It happens all the time. It's one of the problem the Wii is meant specifically to address. Didn't work for my father, alas, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. In his time he was probably mroe serious about playing games than most people I know now, including people on this forum. Your claim that he "wasn't ever a gamer" because he stopped doesn't really hold water.

A leaky cup doesn't hold water either.

Seriously, dude, this is my final reply, i'm done after this.

If you can't see my point by this post then i simply give up.

A gamer by my definition (as i have made pretty clear) is someone who is addicted to gaming, and will come back to gaming despite choosing (yes choosing) to step away. That or just never stop gaming at all.

You are talking about a casual gamer.

Your definition of "gamer" is wrong.

I approve of this thread.

Put in a couple of jokes and you'll be the next Rol.

Wow... I wasn't even trying

I just told the truth, nothing more and nothing less.

The truth is hard to find in these forums at times.  It's become a precious commodity.

You're doing a great job of making 'troo gamerz' sound like heroin addicts.

I know right that's how I felt.  There was a point there last gen I was tired of all the same crap being made over and over again and none of it was trying anything different (aside from the select Nintendo title and Clover) then I found PC gaming and stayed that way till 2006 but if it wasn't for things like the DS and PC games I probably would have just not gamed for that period of my life, maybe not even come back, but I've been a gamer since I was little, my brother would put the controller in my hand when I was 2 and that's how I practically grew up.

@eggs2see:
You make it sound like being a "true" gamer (whatever that means) is something genetical or like a drug addict.

The same here. I have quit gaming (except for PC gaming) somewhere in the middle of last gen, for the same reasons given by Nordlead.

I have come back to console gaming due to the Wii that i deeply enjoys.

I have tried Xbox360 and PS3 gaming but those are "collecting" dust as we say ... For all the blockbusters that are on these consoles, first run is generally ok but replay value is close to nothing.

All i said in this post is IMHO.

Danm, now my dad wants a Wii cause its so easy to play Mario Kart. In his words " I don't have to try to figure out theses weird knobs." What the hell did I do, another convert to Nintendo. Another reason I named my Wii the "Noob Box." Still cool to see people having fun when they otherwise wouldn't.
