Sony's website is where I got the info when I had to send in my ps3 don't know how to help you with the saves though maybe get a case to put on the hard drive so you could take it out use it as a portable hard drive and copy the files.
Either that or you get to replay all the awesomeness or get a save file from online.

Wow, Kratos is even more of a badass than I originally thought.  He now kills PS3s!  Most characters only have power to kill people in their gaming world.

Anyhow, good luck sorting this out.

so far I'm keeping Kratos away from my fourth

Before you go off buying that HDD reader, please know that you won't be able to get your game saves.

The HDD is encrypted, and each encryption key is unique to each PS3.  So you can't stick your current HDD in a new PS3 and use it, it will ask you to reformat it.

There is basically no way to save your savegames unless you can turn your PS3 on somehow.  Even then, you will be limited to the savegames that are unlocked.  Most PS3 savegames are now locked though, to prevent people from getting trophies unfairly.

Long story short, consider your gamesaves as lost.
