God of War seems to of been too much for my PS3, while I was kicking ass with Kratos it just turned it's self off and refuses to turn back on again (it starts up for a couple of seconds, beeps and turns off - YLOD).  It was the old skool 60GB model, and had been working fine up until now.  Damn you Kratos!!

Does anyone know if Sony replaces/fixes PS3s that are 3yrs old?  And how do I contact them?  I can't seem to find a UK phone number.

Call this number to see what Sony can do first  08705 99 88 77

Here's how to rip out your hard drive

Use this to get your info off your hard drive

Then get one of these

Excellent, Thanks dude.  I'll probably buy a slim, but I've just been looking at this guide:  http://playstationlifestyle.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2376     I might give it a go tomorrow (I've got nothing to lose!)

And at least I know I can get my Save data now!  Cheers!

Before you go off buying that HDD reader, please know that you won't be able to get your game saves.

The HDD is encrypted, and each encryption key is unique to each PS3.  So you can't stick your current HDD in a new PS3 and use it, it will ask you to reformat it.

There is basically no way to save your savegames unless you can turn your PS3 on somehow.  Even then, you will be limited to the savegames that are unlocked.  Most PS3 savegames are now locked though, to prevent people from getting trophies unfairly.

Long story short, consider your gamesaves as lost.
