Thats great!
Seems about what I expected. 8.0 means it's a great game with some problems.
Couldn't stand the demo, personally--didn't feel like a Splinter Cell game at all.
From the article:-
"'[Even] the presence of a piano suddenly fills the room with ominous potential' it reports.
It adds: 'The environments, at their best, are playgrounds for Fisher's lethal abilities, giving him every opportunity to outflank and outwit opponents who otherwise outgun him.'
It calls one particular chase around the Lincoln Memorial Ground 'heart-pumping', and praises the new, less-stealthy style of play. 'As Splinter Cell goes from covert to overt, a new-found dynamism emerges,' Edge reports.
However, the mag finds flaws in the games 'short' single-player campaign - and says that too much of the title is played in new atmospheric monocrome.
'But when Conviction hits its stride, the environments unlock the player's tactical ambitions in a way that's truly empowering,' it adds."
Meh. Not as good as I'd hoped. Even the last Splinter Cell got tons of 9/10's (not sure what the metacritic average is). I'm positive that Conviction will be better. I'm still buying it.

I'm with you, man. While I could stand the demo, I didn't care for all the changes brought in it. I hate that we can't drag bodies and that whole DLC business Ubi said but a real splinter cell goes through without a body count (unless part of the mission or something) . |
Exactly. I miss the original design they had for this game, which was kind of like The Bourne Identity/modern-day Assassin's Creed. THAT would have changed it up but still made it feel distinctly 'stealth'.
jesus i hate when people bash edge for the fact that they actually takes 1-10 scale seriously. since when game has to get 9.5-10 to be considered good. therew's really not many games i would give 9 or 10 this gen and most gaming journalists think that their only scores are 7, 8, 9 and 10.
1-3 bad game
4-6 average title
7-8 good game
9 great title
10 perfect game
not:
7 bad
8 mediocre
9 average
10 now you can actually buy this one.
there's probably less than 15-20 games on all 3 consoles i would give more than 8/10.

Well....it did look interesting but I'd be a major critic because all that I saw of hobo Sam was too much of a blending with it's new series (at the time): Assassin's Creed. I do like this direction more but the demo wasn't that impressive. |
Well, it was a little different than AC. For one, you didn't do parkour. But what really interested me was how you interacted with the environment (ie if you're in an office building and a guard recognizes you, you could fling papers off a desk into his face and bash him with a computer monitor, the type of thing that would happen in Bourne).
Ah well, c'est la vie
I will say that coop is still piquing my interest for this game--I'll still give it a rental, as Ubisoft Montreal makes great games.
