The PS3 won't be profitable overall. That is what I said and that is what happened. The profits the division reported were mainly driven by the Vaio laptops. And of course the PSP and PS2. The PS3 itself is still not profitable. It would have been if it was $400 though. But Sony really had to do something, otherwise the PS3 would have lost more and more marketshare. Next quarter might be positive though, even for the PS3.
A $199 would mean another year of losses for the PS3. And with a $199 product you need to sell a LOT to cover a 6 billion loss that the PS3 made in the years before.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
