Gotta be Gold and Silver, i mean obviously Gold and Silver *changed* the series more than any other thus far, but it was a vast improvement, fixing tremendous imbalances that were present in the original (like the fact that there was no real way to exploit psychic's weaknesses without having to use a pokemon that was weak to psychic)

I like that any type of attack can be either normal or special attack in the 4th gen. But still, gold / silver did the most to evolve the franchise.

I vote for the second one for gender, new types and breeding

Day/night

days of the week on top of that

different events and stuff to do after you beat the game.

additional content if you connected to n64 pokemon stadium 2.

fixed type/balance issues.

i sunk over 300 hours into gold, over 216 on my last play through.

Gold and Silver were the pinnicle of pokemon games
-they had the best graphics for the day
-2 regions with their own league and their own badges
-breeding
-day/night cycles
-it had all pokemon up to that point, with a few that had to be transfered from silver to gold and visa versa

Gold and silver were simply the best, everything else just sucked, and the series is clearly in decline in regards to quality, which is sad cuz I love the franchise it's just a pitty that Nintendo do care, they do as little as possible, and make millions on what is essentially rehash after rehash.

I don't see the purpose of this thread. Gen1 set the foundation, and each gen has had an important part in improving the series. We all know people are going to say Gold and Silver just because of nostalgia.

I'm sorry but Ruby and Sapphire sucked.
