Forums - Sony Discussion - Kratos' father about his last son : "the best game I’ve played in years"

http://www.playstationuniversity.com/jaffe-god-of-war-iii-best-game-ive-played-in-years-2914/

David Jaffe left his baby long ago, acting as only consultant on God of War III while he’s busy working on his own studio’s first PlayStation 3 game. For him, playing Sony Santa Monica’s latest game has been a “very cool learning experience,” since he’s been able to look at his baby from an outside perspective for the very first time. Jaffe explains on his blog:

“But it being a great game aside, it is an AMAZING and RARE game design learning opportunity. To play a game based on your initial design formula that you had nothing to do with is eye opening! Because for the first time, I can actually see how the game/God Of War formula feels to a normal player! Before this, I could only go off reviews and player reactions and guesses in terms of gauging just what the game really was and how it felt to play.

You can try to imagine that experience when you make the game but since you know it so intimately, you never really know what it feels like for a normal member of the audience. You never know how others are actually experiencing it. Now I get to see and know and experience that! What a very cool learning opportunity!”

Following this post, Jaffe has now updated his blog with the news that he’s finished the game, and since he had little to do with God of War III we can only advise you to take his following words as sincere:

“Just finished GOD OF WAR III! WOW! What a ride! Thanks Sony Santa Monica for the best game I’ve played in years! Fucking loved it ya’ll! Congrats! It deserves to go super nova!”

There’s certainly a lot of excitment in that comment and though he’ll no doubt soon expand upon those thoughts, he did have this to say on the game’s presentation and production:

“I can say now that visually and production wise, I really don’t think there has EVER been a game that has executed at this level! Presentation and production wise, this is a crazy ass bar raising simply staggering game! And the execution of the story telling process? F***ing fantastic (amazing opening credits)! Amazing job all around!”

God of War III releases exclusively for the PlayStation 3 later this month and if you can’t wait to see it, enjoy this GameTrailers blow-out and our God of War III gallery.

God of War III Might be the Best Game Ever Made

Spanning three systems and four titles the God of War series is finally reaching it’s pinnacle, while at the same time coming to an end. As a long time fan of the games I waited with baited breath for the final act, hoping for a conclusion that would be worthy of the series. After months of hype, this weekend marked the date where I claimed my final vengeance and it was satisfying to say the least. Though one thing is for certain when playing through God of War III, I couldn’t help but anoint the title as the best action game ever made, on any platform, period.

This is not a review of the game, if it was, I’d have to find some nit picking bullshit part of the game to hang my hat on. These are my feelings about the game after my first play-through. Make no mistakes about it: God of War III might spoil your year. So early into 2010, you are unlikely to find any other game that is going to match GOW III in either terms of graphical quality, game-play, or story.

For those of you that are concerned with God of War III’s introduction, it’s grand scope, and the game’s ability to carry this forward. Stop. It’s true, the game starts out with a bang, but where many games might fizzle out after such an epic introduction, God of War III is so elaborately paced, that the awesome doesn’t stop until the credits roll. You get pleasantly suprised at so many points in the game, that by the end, it’s a little bittersweet knowing that this journey has to come to an end.

Santa Monica wasn’t lying when they said that their only competition was themselves. There is such a clear divide between God of War III and everything else in so many aspects of the game, that it’s clearly unfair to even begin to compare this game to a Dante’s Inferno, or a Bayonetta. I also don’t envy the poor souls that must judge a game like God of War III against a title like Mass Effect 2 for Game of the Year. Having played them both, it’s not fair. God of War III, doesn’t just make you look at the genre and say, “Yup, God War series is the best action game around” it makes you examine the realm of possibilities in video game design.

It’s no secret that God of War III is a brilliant and beautiful game. But, the way that it all comes together is what is truly remarkable. Attention to details so minute in the graphics department, and changes made to the combat system which make Kratos even more capable than ever before, I’m honestly surprised that they don’t start charging people more for these types of games. Games that are so near perfection that have been in QCed to death, makes it worth your while when you compare it to some other full priced titles.

Since this turned into less of a review, and more of a letter to Santa Monica thanking them for their efforts, I might as well go ahead and officially thank them. Not for just making a beautiful game, but also for finishing on such a high note. The game feels as fresh as it does the first time I played it, and I appreciated the way that no plot developments occurred that gave me anything but closure to my personal journey in the series. It’s hard to imagine that another title will be able to match either the visual fidelity of God of War III, or it’s epic and grand nature. With pitch perfect pacing, a story that feels right in the conclusion of a series, and graphics that might shake the foundations of the industry, God of War III both met and exceeded my expectations of not only the series but of video games in general.

I though Krato's father was Zeus? I thought it was going to be an interview with Zeus after he played the game.

What happend to it being the best looking game he ever saw? I don't want to come off sounding like a sour puss, but I will believe it when I see it.

Here is to hoping it is as good as he says.

1/ this thread is not about technical/gfx achievement
it is about GOW3 AWESOMENESS

2/ It seems to me that : “I can say now that visually and production wise, I really don’t think there has EVER been a game that has executed at this level!" means that GoW3 is the graphical king according to this guy

3/ I will report you (but not to the mod, dont worry), I will report you to another memeber that believe PS fans are the worst ;)

Jaffe likes a God of War game? Shocking

I think you guys are missing something. The main thing here that he's trying to get is that he got to finally experience his game from a gamer's perspective. When you're a developer behind a game, you already know exactly what's going on, why's it happening, what's coming next and how everything works. GoW3 was the first GoW this guy didn't make.

if you read carefully (or just read the whole post indeed ...) you will see he is clearly commenting on the value of GoW3 itself in the second part.

I m not saying your point is crap or useless but you cant come and say "I think you guys are missing something" while nobody has missed anything ...

Edit : wait, or you could be right ? it is indeed obvious that it is the first GoW he is REALLY playing by himself without knowing the game at 100%
You made a good point IMO ...
