wow, 10 year plan? Didn't they rip on Sony for that kind of thing?

Still, great news. Every console gen should last that long. I'm tired of upgrading and waiting for devs to figure shit out.

5 more years means next xbox in 2013 at the latest.

anyway... sony (jack t) are talking 15 or 17 year plans now... lol

that's a little crazy..ten is long enough!

Five more years? I know Gamasutra revealed Microsoft was hiring developers to work on several next generation titles. If Microsoft is already developing these next generation titles then how exactly does the X-Box 360 have another five years left. Also with dropping marketshare I think Microsoft will have another X-Box either at this E3 or E3 2011!

If they want to have some good games on launch with new console then they would have to start developing games at least 3 years before launch. Even now 3-4 years is normal development time for HD games and I doubt it would get any shorter with next generation. So if they would launch next generation console this year, they should have started game development 2 years ago. So I doubt there is any chance that console could be launched this year (they could but it would have no games) and I doubt even next year.

I would love it if it was more like 2013 when the next gen is released. I really don't want to buy hardware any time soon. I'd rather spend my hard earned dollars on software.

I believe that they will be able to maintain core audience and build up the casual at the same time. Heck, look at this year, one of the xbox 360's best for core gamers and natal is coming out on top of that.

  Kinect! who needs video games!

MS has been on a hiring spree. They are probably doubling their workforce. So yes, they can execute this plan. Anyway, MS has relied on third parties for most of their core games.

Yet still, you're not hired. This does make me feel that you're an inadequate Halo fan/Java programmer if you haven't landed a job coding the Bungie site yet.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

How can they honestly say this?

If microsoft is planning on spending X dollars on games every year they will have to divide them now between natal type casuals and core games.

One or both will suffer either way, at least sony isn't putting a lot into this and they wont have to waste $$$$$$ on something that its market just wont support, i mean americans like shooters and adventure games, not playing pinball wtih your arms or whatever.

No, they don't have to do any dividing.

They've already made separate teams for these Natal games.

For instance, they hired the Wii head-tracking guy. So, the teams they have that make "core" games will continue to make those games.

Lord knows what rare will be doing.

The ponit is, instead of dividing the teams they have now, they're creating new teams.

Sure, they're separating teams, but before they had X amount of dollars and X amount of focus for core games, now its X amount for both core and casual.  Which one will be given the most focus?  I'd say core of course but still this is going to be a drain on the core market.

I think you missed the point again.  They are not SEPARATING the teams, they are CREATING new ones.  That means all the core games are covered exactly the same amount as before while ADDING coverage for more casual stuff.  With more projects in the works you can use a higher budget overall because the return would be higher as well.
