Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pather - "Subscription fee, F2P & microtransaction is going to happen"

A new episode of the bonus round with Shane Satterield, Michael Pachter and Jason Rubin. It tackles how developers might find other way to charge for games that is not the $60. Whether you pay $20-30 for the game and then pay for additional content whether it's subscription fee, Free-to-play with microtransaction or just microtransaction along with what you already payed. As we know developers as we know are already using the DLC model. According to patcher it adds replayablility to the games.

subscription - biggest scam ever...
microtransactions - even bigger because the content is alreayd in a game u paid for but u still have to pay to use it..

f2p ftw!

This is just a way of nickel and diming customers.

Gamers eventually won't support such actions (I hope) and buy games that are complete upon purchase at retail.

Every time I hear Pachter talk, he never says anything that will benefit gamers, only anger them.

it wasn't pachter who was really pushing it though, it was rubin. pachter thinks game prices are going up.

Only a big name game like call of duty could screw gamers that hard and get away with it.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Maybe it is not a new model that is needed.
Maybe the whole system of developing games costing more than movies (and targeting far fewer people) is the problem. Remember, a movie only costs $$5-10 (USD) to see (rental/ppv to theatre viewing) and usually $20-$30 to own.
These new games are now running $60 and want more for DLC in some cases.
No wonder why a lot of developers are having trouble -- the model is broken.

Probably wont see this on Wii due to 3rd parties not "getting" the Wii audience.

...........what is there to get. They don't buy half-assed bullshit.

Nintendo has already stated dozens of times that "N6" will be more than just HD.

Oh the return of the old arcade model.

How did that turn out again?
