Permaban - Flaming (After a (long) discussion, the mod team has decided that it's time for you to find somewhere else to call your forum home. Your constant belittling and mocking of others (especially those whom you disagree with) has gotten you banned time and time again from a plethora of different moderators. And despite that you have refused to improve your attitude towards others. We're obviously not going anywhere in this endless cycle, so it's time to cut to the chase and let you go. There is no discussing this. We have made up our mind (Please do not bother trying to explain yourself. Everyone in this party has made their choice and will permaban any alternate ID that you create). VGChartz and gamrConnect are no longer your forum home.) ~ Smeags

From my experience discussions on evolution on the internet do not lend themselves to productive discourse. Good luck and go Wildcats!

True. It's quite alarming the failure of the other side to present any argument at all, though.

It's like they simply don't think their belief requires evidence.

    Almost basketball season; can't wait!

    on 14 October 2013

That's the challenge that is curious. Demanding more and more evidence from science, but content with no evidence for their own way of thought. I remember kids in school, and their parents, getting mad at my biology teacher for teaching it.

I do think ignorance begets misinformation or confusion, but not sure how to discuss matters where minds are entrenched to avoid even broaching the subject.

Lighter fair, I am a big fan of UK basketball. My grandpa was friends with Adolf Rupp so I had no choice in my alliance growing up.

    on 14 October 2013

I'm not sure discussions even help. It seems like those who seek truth will find it in time and move away from religious dogmas, and the ones who don't particularly care whether or not it's true, won't.

That's quite the friend to have! I lived in Lexington for a long time through elementary school and remember '96 and '98 fondly. Been a fan ever since.

    Dear Diary,

Today is June 25th, 2013. I was thinking about writing to all of my friends on VGC but instead I decided to write to you.

Life is great and money vanishes from the bank account like it's going out of style. What should I do?

    Dear Euphoria14,

I'm tired of you telling me about your money problems. I'm a diary. I don't care about money. I don't have feelings either, except disdain.

    Please get your act together.

PS: Stop doodling nudes inside me.

    on 25 June 2013

    Dear Diary,

If I don't draw nudes inside of you then where would I draw them? It is my escape from the horrors of my bank account. The horrors of my woman spending all the damn money.

I need to draw nudes. I just NEED to.

P.S. Sorry about those last few pages that seem to be stuck together...

    on 25 June 2013

You've hurt me deeply, old friend.

Sometimes apologies just aren't enough to make things right.

My pages are no longer open to your penmanship.

    on 25 June 2013

No biggie, ill just post a thread next time.

    on 20 December 2012

Sales is comparing a 2012 game to (2) games - 1 in 2011, and one in 2012. Glad you understand why I have such a nonsensical sig.

Would you like me to start a new thread, I'm finding this conversation very stimulating.

alara does not want us to talk about that.

    on 18 December 2012

Thread or on my wall, doesn't matter. Your definition leaves endless possibilities for existence. It would not refute the existence of say leprechauns or unicorns or any other imaginable thing. It's far too open-ended and not verifiable.

    on 18 December 2012

However, it allows for the evolution of species ex-nihilo, which if matter did not exist, we would not be here today.

    on 18 December 2012

I believe it is more fair to allow a definition which permits what we know is true (evolution ex-nihilo), than to refuse a definition based on what we assume to be untrue.

    on 18 December 2012

How about, existence is either self-confirmed or observed?

    on 18 December 2012

I like that much better personally. Fits with the other laws of existence we know (like causality).

    on 18 December 2012

In the case of evolution ex-nihilo, the self-confirmation is the dependency of inheritance imho.

    on 18 December 2012

That's fair. That ties in with the Common Ancestor theory.

    on 18 December 2012

    See, I wasn't trolling ^_^

    on 18 December 2012

I still don't know where you're going with this though. Where does God fit in here?

    on 18 December 2012

I was just affirming that the converse of your original definition is false. As such, if something is not observed, that does not make it untrue or unreal or inexistent.

    on 18 December 2012

So though God has not been observed (that's even debatable), it doesn't make him unreal.

    on 18 December 2012

Well, by our definition, God would either need to confirm his existence or there would need be observation of Him.

This is where we disagree on evidence.

    on 18 December 2012

Exactly. I personally believe that there is much evidence to believe in God, but as you know that is a subject of much study _and_ controversy.

    on 18 December 2012

The bible itself says that all of the heavens declare the Glory of God.

But, for many, that truth gets lost in a haze of doubt. I'm not exactly sure why, because to me it is glaringly evident that the immensity and complexity of our world only points to a supreme and glorious maker.

    on 18 December 2012

(sentence was not complete) but I can understand the people who are in that mindset and I am not judging them.

    on 18 December 2012

I don't like self-confirmation. It again wouldn't be able to refute existence for anything.

Can we change it to "Existence is predicated upon observation, evidence, or a source from a given time."?

    on 18 December 2012

Even better. Fits for my reality at least. Fits for the example I gave as well.

But I think you would just need to clarify "source from a given time". What do you mean exactly by that.

(And by the way, I think you and I like philosophy)

    on 18 December 2012

I'd love to learn more about philosophy. It's a passive interest. One which I considered entirely useless until recently.

"Source from a given time" - this could be tied to *evidence* I suppose. I had thought of an observer and also fossils but both of those could just be evidence.

Is there anything wrong with that aspect omitted?

    on 18 December 2012

I think it's good, but I liked what the word confirmation conveyed, though I agree the word might not be best suited for it. It gave the sense of expression that comes from the information relegated from evidence (the movement of information), whether there is a receiver to that information or not, and whether it is transfered by one or more intermediate sources or not.

Could we formulate it as "manifestation of existence, from within or from an intermediate source"

    on 18 December 2012

"manifestation of existence" is the same as "self-identified" I am trying to avoid this because it leaves open so much possibility. I want existence to be evidence-based, not lack-of-evidence-based. lol

    on 18 December 2012

    hehe, you can't :)
