Looks like gaming performance on Haswell and Richland tops out at 2133 speed DDR3 RAM. 2400 Mhz RAM isn't stable enough on Richland and actually drops performance on Haswell.

      Hmmm...doesn't apply to Haswell-E :P

Well, the Haswell-E works with different parts. Plus, that link didn't mention it. ;)

Ha, that's great man! I'm jealous! You're making me consider green for my next build!

Saw this on sale and picked it up. Dunno what I'll do with it yet but I figured it'll come in handy... :)

That's a really good deal for that board!

I'm sure you'll find a happy home for it. In one of the, multiple, builds you have there :D

Lol, yeah... I don't have most of those builds though. I have a 3570k GTX 670 SLI build and an Athlon X2 7750 mediacenter HTPC.

I haven't yet had a chance to play with an X79 chipset so I figured why not. 3570k will probably bow out to make room for this. Only thing I don't like about the board is 2X SATA 3 ports. Really wanted to have 4 ports to have dual RAID0. I guess SATA 2 will have to do.

From what I gather, the X79s are better than the Z&& chips. For what, I'm still trying to determine, but that's what I've been told.

      on 11 March 2013

      x
Yeah it would be better for many things but for me the most appealing thing is proper tri or quad SLI support. X79 chipset has up to 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes going to the CPU. Z77 only has 16. So only way to do tri SLI on Z77 is with an extra chip called PLX which introduces latency, and compatibility issues with some card. X79 has no issues like that and does proper x16x16x8 for x16x8x8x8 for tri/quad SLI. with a card like Titan and next gen cards, PCIe bandwidth may actually be an issue for multi GPU setups.

      LOL, I meant Z77

Considering you've played with the gtx 690s, maybe you've researched this and know the answer.

Are you able to SLI 2 GTX 690s in quad SLI and then dedicate 3 GPUs to SLI and 4th for Nvidia Physx?

4 way SLI looks to be scaling like crap on most games and this way you would get the best config for gaming (3 way sli) while having an extra GPU for physx in the few games that use it... and all taking up only 2 PCIe slots.

      Thoughts?

      x
I hadn't planned on Quad 690, because I was just going to hold out with a single one till the 790 (or next top card) dropped. Would you suggest Quad, or just stick with one?

      on 18 January 2013

      x
A single 690 is already SLI right since its 2 680s on 1 card. So quad SLI would be 2 X 690.

I would say that if you are able to go quad SLI (using 2 cards) and put 3 GPUs in SLI and leave the 4th for physx, that would be the best setup you can do with least amount of heat, room and noise.

But who knows what 790s may bring...lol

So I go to TigerDirect today, minding my own business and what do I find... In the back of this one store there are 2 Mitsubishi WD65737 DLPs... Open box, final price of...$369?!?. I've never seen these in Canada and at that price I just had to buy one. Got them to give me a 3 year in house warranty and delivery for another 100 bucks. Looking forward to giving it a try and comparing it to my Samsung LED DLP...

      x
What a deal! I would have bought both of them for that price. Let me know what you think, as I love my Mitsu. Personally, Im either waiting for Laservue's to come down in Price (very unlikely) or a dual lens theater dlp projector

      on 12 November 2011

      x
Yeah ill let you know how it compares as soon the damn thing is delivered. I want it now! :) LAservue looks awesome and i would have prolly bought one already if they sold it in canada. I just can't justify spending 4000 dollars on something that has no warrant in my country. 2000? Maybe...so yeah, it better drop in price.
