So this weekend brought the U.S. opening of Pokemon Detective Pikachu. While the film did not debut in the number one position because of the continued dominance of Avengers: Endgame ($63 million weekend/ $723 million total), Pikachu's number two opening at $58 million is good enough to take the number one record opening for all movies based on videogames. The previous record was held by 2001's Lara Croft Tomb Raider ($47.7 million, not adjusted for inflation). It is very likely that Pokemon Detective Pikachu will end up outgrossing Tomb Raider's $131 million total (again not adjusted) to claim the crown for top videogame movie adaption.

So far Detective Pikachu has grossed $112.4 million internationally for a $170 million gross worldwide. Pikachu's 52 rating on Metacritic and certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes makes it the best reviewed videogame movie as well but of course the competition is really low.

So what do you think? Did you see the movie? Did you like it? Are these numbers good, bad, not what you expected? Pika, Pika?
