Battletoads Gamescom Gameplay (Looks God Awful!)

Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Battletoads Gamescom Gameplay (Looks God Awful!)

Only problem I have is it looks too slow. Other than that it should be a blast with my kids in couch co-op, day one.

Apparently its been said the game will offer a mix of different genres just like the original games.

Shows in the OG Trailer with the scroll of texts @ 0.50

Yeah, it does say "Platforming" there. Should see it soon then, should have released footage of it by now it would have gone down better.

I agree, it would have been better if they showed more, however the game still seems to be under wraps.

They only just showed two sections, a Beat'Em Up and Racing section. I am interested in seeing what else they have in store.

It looks okay. They need to speed up the movement and animations, which would solve most peoples complaints. Lets not act like Battletoads was this great franchise to begin with.

It will be a interesting thing to see how it will do once it launch. Quality title from MS.

The overcomplicated controls don't fit a beat'em up, either.

"Left trigger + X + Left analog to fire your tongue. TAP to pull yourself towards the enemy, HOLD to pull an enemy towards you."

WTF, man.

Eh, written out it looks more complicated then it actually is. Sounds fine to me. But then I don't play beat'em ups.

The game uses at least six buttons plus the sticks, there should be some unused two button combinations easier to do than that thing.

It's only two buttons, Analog is irrelevant, you'll just use your tounge in the direction you're facing. A game having a move as L2 + Square for example isn't that complicated.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

Analog is relevant because the way it's worded in the tutorial it implies that the move won't come out if the stick is on neutral, which is stupid.

We've known for over 25 years, since the first Art of Fighting, that mapping different actions for tapping/holding a button in an action game should be avoided because it's unintuitive and unresponsive. The game has to wait several frames to check if you're holding the button or not before the move begins to be executed. Mapping the first variant as L2 + Square and L2 + Triangle for the second one (no analog stick requirement) would've been a much better choice.

Kinda looks like some old crappy flash game from 2004 or something. You know, when Newgrounds was still a thing.

I don't know, I don't want to judge too soon, I'll need to play it. But it really doesn't look too good.

Newgrounds is literally what came to my mind when i saw the game.

The original game wasn't very good. I don't know why people would have great expectations built from that baseline.

Oh it wasn't? I loved it and had tons of fun with it, but I guess now that the king of opinions has spoken it must be a fact...

Anyway this looks like garbage. Not surprising coming from MS though.

if it even looked as good as the Gameboy port which came out 27 years ago... that would be nice.

1 whole KB of system memory and it is able to have vehicles and platforming, and gameplay which doesn't look a chore.

Awesome game. I used to be able to beat it in half an hour once I got good at it. Incredible music for the Gameboy, too!
