Forums - Sales Discussion - UK charts: Slow start for Tomb Raider as Spider-Man reigns supreme

Yeah, the reboot made Tomb Raider technically and mechanically more contemporary, but it kind of lost its original identity too. Or maybe it was doomed all the same, kids today don't want peaceful exploration and platforming with sporadic action here and there.
The Microsoft deal didn't sit well with me, having played all the mainline entries since the very first game. Still, I'm going to buy Shadow when I'm done with some backlog, just to complete the trilogy and be done with it.

I'm sorry for Tomb Raider, but Spider-Man was a great game.

I'm still playing Spider-man, TR reboot is a maybe when I get bored in Februari kind of game. However with titles slipping into the post Holiday season nowadays I might just miss it entirely.

[Week 36, 2018] MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) ~ 190,000 / NEW
[Week 37, 2018] MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) ~ 110,000 / 300,000 (-42%)

[Week 20, 2016] UNCHARTED 4: A THIEF'S END (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 42,000 / 234,000 (-78%)

[Week 09, 2017] HORIZON ZERO DAWN (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 114,000 / NEW

[Week 17, 2018] GOD OF WAR (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 62,000 / 158,000 (-35%)

From Bruno on Resetera

Tomb Raider (ALL) - 185,000

Rise of the Tomb Raider (ALL) - 42,000

Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One) - 36,000
Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox 360) - 6,000

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (ALL) - 52,000

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PlayStation 4) - 33,000
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One) - 19,000

And to everyone claiming the userbase difference, this is UK only not WW. And last I remember UK wasn't 2:1 was it? And considering the big sales of SM last and this week (with even the second one being much higher than TR) the sales on X1 should be much closer... but that is what you get from userbase being more interested in one genre than the other (main claim when we were discussing the temporary exclusivity).

Talk about bloodbath (SpiderMan second week really smoke UC4 and GoW).

And X1 version selling half of it's previous entry on the same system even having higher userbase put to rest that the justification for the gap between it and PS4 is due to the consoles owned, the game simply did bad and unfortunately worse than that on X1.

Wow that 2nd week from Spiderman, amazing!

Not surprised about TR to be honest, not much hype, 2nd one was same as 1st and 3rd didnt seem like it was going to do anything different.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Looks like Old Lara is in the Shadow of Spider-Man.

Huh? Didn't know that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is on Switch. I guess I'll check it out then.

Most likely the cloud version of the game :P

So you’re telling me that Spidey sold more than 116k retail copies in its second week?
Holy spiderweb

If Spiderman only dropped 43% then yes but  the most impressive thing is that it is beating new multiplat releases week after week.  Last week it beat 2K19 on 3 platforms.  This week it beat Tomb Raider on 2 platforms.   Thats why the sales are so amazing.
