There were discounts on PS4s at places too, so that's not a one way street.

XBox should not have been even close to Sony this month, the whole line of reasoning we've heard the last 5-6 months is PS4 sales have been held down by people waiting for the PS4 Pro, but that doesn't look like the case to me.

Eh. This is microsofts strongest month in their strongest territory and they have all this momentum from the xb1s. They basically just hit a wall running, now that the Pro is out. The paradigm will return back to normal at the very least until Scorpio comes out moving forward.  What are you gonna say when ps4 takes the next 9+ NPDs in a row?

Xbox took 4 of the last 5. PS4 only won November because of pro launch. Xbox should be able to take at least some months.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

So if the PS4 only won November because of the Pro, what do you think helped the X1 win some of those months? It's not it like the X1 was just coasting along and took 4 months.

I know, but they tried really hard this season, and they took 4 out of the last 5. All I'm saying is it isn't crazy to say they could could take a few of the npd's going forward. Especially if the November leak was true. If those numbers are true than Xbox would have taken November too by a bit if the pro had not launched. I get blasted when I say they should be able to win some months, but other people say Sony is gunna take every month till at least Scorpio and it ain't nothing.

They arent bad in and of themselves but they should be higher all things considering.

This is the first holiday for the new, slim models as well as the debut month for PS4 Pro. That along with the heavy discounts to sub-$250 really should have put them both up YOY.

Eh, let's also look at what released the last time we had Slim Models. For the PS3, it was Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2. The 360S released with Halo Reach and the original Black Ops. All of these were high quality, system pushing, critically acclaimed games.

The PS4 Slim + Pro and X1S have Gears 4 (brilliant, but not on that caliber), Infinite Warfare (another title that's decent enough, but no Modern Warfare 2), and The Last Guardian (love you, Ueda, but this was never going propel the PS4 into the Heavens).

To me, things don't look too bad.

What about Battlefield 1, Watch Dogs 2, Titanfall 2, Dishonored 2, Mafia III, Skyrim Remastered

New models+multiple big games+heavy discounts should have led to a YOY increase.

Name three users and maybe I'll see what I can do. Of course that has its price...

I still won't put the 3DS in the title.

Blasted? No. I see people disagreeing with you. Nothing wrong with that.

To the topic, yes, that's my point. They tried really hard to win those months, where Sony didn't really do much (and didn't have to, it's a mere 4 NPDs and they're still leading in the country by over a million units).

One won't know what would have happened until we are back in the off months of Jan-August.

Hopefully if Microsoft wins December people won't say it's because Sony didn't try.

New models+multiple big games+heavy discounts should have led to a YOY increase.

Now let's take a close look at that:

  • Battlefield 1 - Fantastic game. Yes. Not much of a system mover, however.
  • WATCH_DOGS 2 - Speaks for itself. Sold less than the original and wasn't accompanied by the same hype.
  • Titanfall 2 - As of now, it's selling worse than the original and was never going to contribute and major amount to the units sold of either console.
  • Dishonored 2 - Isn't a huge franchise like that.
  • Mafia III - While gamers seemed to like it, the game was critically injured, which usually cuts off any kind of legs for console sales.
  • Skyrim Remastered - May have moved some units, but nothing even close to the caliber of a Modern Warfare or some other major title. TES: VI will do that.

As for what's up YoY, we don't have solid numbers. So it's pointless to make any full assertions based on one unconfirmed source. You'll have a better idea next month.

Idk seems like making excuses

The combination of Call of Duty, Battlefield, Watch Dogs, Titanfall, Dishonored, Mafia along with first holiday for Slim models and sub-$250 price tags should have put them up YOY.

As for the rumored figures, you should read the post that I originally responded to. He asked why the rumored numbers are considered bad, I said they arent bad but are lower than people thought they would be based on all the things they had going for them.

I think the biggest damage was CoD's performance.  It's not just down, it's WAY down.  And there was no official bundle for it.  And Assassin's Creed, also a typical console mover, skipped this year.  And aside from Battlefield, all the rest you mentioned were fairly underhyped and Mafia in particular got quite the lukewarm reception.

And PS4 lowered it's price late in the November game, so that's part of that issue.  But Xbox's problem is that their little game of fire sale after fire sale is a war of diminishing returns.  Having them so frequently has eroded their effectiveness.  So Sony under-utilized their resources and Microsoft has so often over played their hand with the sales that their agression in the Holidays this year just isn't as effective as it has been in the past.
