Just a random thought about Smash. Wii is likely to a least double GCs sales in Japan, and not only Smash is a Nintendo game, but it will also feature third party characters. I think people haven´t realized how important that can be. For a fact, I know some people that will probably buy a Wii just to be able to play as Snake. Who knows what other characters are being kept secret. It may be a bit late...but I think Smash is not only a great game, but also a marketing game. It made me and many other friends interested in franchises such as FE ( My favorito Nintendo franchise now), F-Zero, and thanks to the Brawl trailer, in Kid Icarus. Probably SEGA fans will get it for Sonic ( he´ll probably be in) and other 3rd party characters.I dunno if Square has thought about it, but at least one KH game , one that has more focus on Disney chars, which will appeal more to Wii´s fanbase probably, should be on Wii, and adding Sora to Brawl could be a perfect advertisement method, specially for people that have never heard of the franchise. Or maybe another Japanese character could be added. As I said before, this works fantastic as a marketing game.

The PS3 shouldnt worry about the Xbox this time around. The PS3 will know doubt (in my mind) sell more units then the 360. The Wii is what will screw over Sony because a lot of big time Japanesse company's (Square-Enix, Capcom, and many others) are making games for the Wii. Right know PS3 is getting more bigger games (FFXIII, FFXIII Versus, MH3, RE5, and many others) but how long till the companies move there big games to the Wii? Who knows maybe the rest of the FXIII games will go to the Wii which would leave a big impact. Like the PSP though Sony doesnt need to sell more to make money but right now they do because there losing so much money.

It's very possible that near the end of life, the PS3 will have sold more units than the 360.

But it's going to be a long road ahead for Sony considering the ass-kicking they're going to receive this holiday season. Halo 3, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, Forza 2, Lost Odyssey, Trusty Bell, GTA IV, and BioShock are all due some time between now and Christmas. That's a lot of VERY GOOD games coming to the MS console that span several different genres. I see virtually nothing in the Sony camp this holiday season that will even come close to touching the top four games in that list, excepting MGS 4. One game, no matter how good, is enough to counter the 360 lineup. I don't even think GTA IV will be a big help to the PS3 because an identical version will be available on the cheaper, more game-filled, 360.

2008 does look good for Sony, though. They should be able to make up a lot of ground *if* the 360 doesn't show a lot of good exclusives this E3. As it stands now, I think Sony definitely has an advantage in 2008 but one or two more lost exclusives could be devastating to them. It's still a long time until 08, a lot can happen.

Smash could be a real hit for Nintendo because of the reasons you mentioned.

Too bad that I'm not even remotely interested in fighting games any more. I'm dying to play a decent Wii game again. It seems like I bought the damned thing for Zelda and Sports. I beat Zelda and Sports got old after three months.

Wow my firsty post and i set out to do what i wanted i got the nintendogz antsy ( i love saying it , hey i have a wii too). But the fact of the matter is this chart isnt supposed to be represnting that the ps3 will dominate japan(kudos to the guy who took the time to analyze each game on the list) but that their is interest in the ps3. While i do believe Hot Shots 5 when it drops the ps3 will be pass 1 million ( Dont doubt this series it is awesome and i love it im going to download 2 to my psp for a fair price instead of 64 games for 10 bucks) The rest is unsure. Sony was reckless and complacent in jp they even admitted but now they are taking steps to win it back. My hoal here was also to cause doubt among the nintendogs meaning they havent won jp yet. You can definately say that in round 1 Sony got their ass handed to them, but the ps3 is going to be around for ten years ( by then most nintendogz will be in highschool/ just playing) so who knows maybe FF doesnt always appear on the dominant system maybe whatever system it is on becomes dominant. What Sony needs to do now is work with the jp publishers like namco and Sega get more advertisement. You also need America to win a console war. But the single most important thing sony needs to do is get off its ass apoplogize for being so damn arrogant , and push Bluray. I could rant on but i need to get my Hot shots on.

This was so good post, that i had to quote it. Most of the "Nintendogz" have finished their school ten years ago. They are people who loved the NES 20 years ago. So it's unlikely that they will be at highschool after ten years from today. But yes, many of the new "Nintendogz" will be in the highschool after five to ten years from today, just like most of the current Sony fanboys. It's foolish to think that PS3 will be around for ten years, if sales numbers wont get better. Wii will be, if it keeps selling at the current pace, or at least near the current pace. PS2 may have its ten years, just like Sony predicted. But it's all because of its great sales. Ok then... I would put my money on the golf game, because if it's a system seller with long legs, but only does 5 to 10 thousand a week (for hardware sales) it makes hardware sales look much better in long term than 50000 increase for a week or two. And since this isn't ovbiously hardcore title, it plays pretty important role for PS3 at the current situation.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

On a related note, what do all of you think will happen to Japanese 360 sales in the next month and a half? On the 24th, Japan will receive Forza 2. With GT5 still a long ways away and no real competition in the next-gen console racing sim genre available, how will it do? Then, three weeks later, Trusty Bell launches in Japan on June 14th. Alongside Blue Dragon, how will it help the 360 in RPG-centric Japan?

I think a best-case scenario is MS averaging weekly sales of around 15,000 360s a week until early July. That would mean that in a month and a half, they would move around 90,000 units, an unimpressive number overall but a huge step in the right direction for them. That would boost their overall LTD sales by about 25%. I think a more-likely scenario is about 10,000 units a week.
