Forums - Gaming Discussion - GTA IV being held back by 360?

Lol, this is funny. Oblivion didn't have any issues without a HD. Maybe Rockstar should call Bethsada and ask them how they did it. The simple answer on the GTAIV HD issue? Require hard drive for play. Very simple. Big deal. Stop whining about the 360 version being "lesser" its not. I am certain that Rockstar has their hands full figuring out how to get the cell to work properly on the game. I'd rather have an easy issue like loading times with the HDD versus problems with actual preformance on the CPU/GPU combo. Lets see which version gets the sales since the 360 is the "lesser" version.

What does it have to do which one is the better version with which one sells more? 360 has a bigger install base, it will sell more on it.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Xbox apologist are we.

They dont mention anything specific about the PS3, only the 360 issues. And dev worth a damn has long figured out the Cell.

When asked if the fact that, along with the greater storage capacity of the PS3's Blu-ray discs, the Xbox 360's lack of a built-in hard drive--which is absent from the basic $299 Core model--presented limitations to the studio's design team, Houser reportedly gave a blunt one-word answer: "Yep."

The obvious point was he didn't "Volunteer" this information, he was asked whether these differences were presenting limitations. The obvious (and honest) answer is "yes they do cause limitations." The limitations may or may not be important (the XBox 360 may have music compressed in MP3 rather than come in an uncompressed form) but I suspect that there will be no major differences.

Since they said the PS3 version had problems, they are there. You spinning that comment to mean otherwise makes you the apologist.

I think we all know developing for any console has challenges, but the point of this article is that not all 360s having hard drives is a limitation, since the game company has to think of what to avoid doing to make it work with the hard driveless version. I never liked the idea of the core 360 and still think it's pointless to buy and not a good idea by Microsoft. I wish there was some kind of way of seeing how many of the 360s sold are premiums and how many are core version, because I am willing to bet the vast majority are premiums...

Where do they mention anything specific about the PS3 ?  http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25608477&sid=6170113&action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;2

What they do mention is the hd lacking 360s, thats all.

Legend11 wins. This is coming from Official PlayStation magazine... A good journo would ask "what specific problems are there with developing two builds of the game for different hardware?" Instead, they ask "on Xbox 360 there's no guarantee of a hard-drive and you're working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations?" The question implies the answer. They were leading the Rockstar folks into a responce that looks bad for the 360. But they weren't fooled. They responded saying "Yes. But, there's good things and bad things about developing for both systems." A wise responce to make. As a person who doesn't have to worry about PR, let me offer the most correct responce: "The limitations of 360's hardware are dwarfed by the limitations of PS3's sales capacity, which caused us to make the 360 version in the first place."

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

It doesnt take a genius to figure out which console is going to be in the lead as far as sales. The 360 has been out for well over a year now. And the PS3 for only 6 months and just rcently the PS3 has become available worldwide. So ofcourse the 360 is going to be in the lead right now.

I dont think some of you people understand that when making a game you have to optimize it for all sku's... 75% of xbox owners may have a hDD but they still have to optimize it for that 25%.. you forget a HDD just doesnt help with saving games... It helps with other things too.. One of you mentioned Oblivion why compare GTA to that game??? How stupid... I honestly think the Ps3 version could be so much better if the game was not multiplatform.. just because of blu Ray format.... oh well sony should have paid that money to make it exclusive

Sorry, but not naming specifics does not mean problems don't exist. That's why you are spinning it to make the PS3 look better.
