Forums - Gaming Discussion - GTA IV being held back by 360?

This is why GTA should never of been made for a system that is not ready for the future of gaming.  The xbox can't handle what the game delvelopers want to do.  Why would anyone want help from the people that make oblivion, that game needs to load stuff every 30 seconds just to work.  You can't even walk down the street without it taking 5-10secs to load something, when you go in and out of buildings it takes over 1minute to load.

Jeez, I hope the "future of gaming" has very little to do with needing to partially install every game just to be able to play games without excessive interruption. Maybe console makers should focus on efficiency, loading games from disc faster, so game developers don't have to worry about crap like this. I seriously hope "the future of gaming" is not all about exponentially increasing hassle (not to mention cost) with only incrementally bigger payoff.

Think about it: you're paying more money for a great big harddrive, just so you can do what gamers have been doing for the last 25 years. IE, not wait 10 minutes watching a bar fill up whenever you want to play a game.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

And how much do you play Oblivion on 360 to know this? I never have been fusterated or felt load times have been long with the 800+ hours that my copy of Oblivion has on it. Bethsada included cashe clearing to help speed load times. Obviously with the name one can tell which one your going to favor, simply because you have to.

As for the earlier questions about the core sales (as I asked someone over at neogaf and got an answer): The core is selling at about 10% the rate the Premiums are, so if Rockstar is really deving for the 10% which is the lowest common denominator, they are pretty dumb (only recently did MS realize that by forcing game sizes to be 64mb, that they were hampering alot of great games).

Every console has its challenges. What matters is what systems the devs are focusing on. Time will tell when GTAIV comes out which console was the one that Rockstar put the cash onto. Who knows? Maybe the HD issue will hold the 360 back, or maybe the challenges of the PS3 will be too much for Rockstar to totally stamp out at the release date. It's all speculative. IMO, I am sure that both versions will be pretty good, and fanboys will always have their preferences on which one is better.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
