I like the old emotion icons better.  And I forgot to mention that I disagree with Kwaad for the reasons explained by albionus.

i think for this post, kwaad's ultimate point is woth thinking about, but his arguments that reached there are mostly off-base.

the thing to realize that it's not because of nintendo that the industry is moving in that direction.  nintendo is only reacting to the economic realities.  just how many "epic" sized games can the market out there support?  especially if the cost of making those games is only gonna spiral upward from $10, $20 mln?

i think we WILL get to the "epic" genre games; but it's not because the Wii delaying them, it's because of the Wii it will happen sooner.  the gamer crowd simply is too small to support routine $20 mln upward games.  first thing you do is to expand the market--Nintendo is doing that.  spielberg currently has a few projects on the Wii, and i would hope those are warmly welcomed by the movie going audience--i.e. the general public.

for kwaad, his "ideal" game is, well, an ideal.  broadening the spectrum a bit, those kind of games/entertainment will come in another generation--but certainly not THIS generation, even it's not for the Wii.  it's simply too early--cost is a factor, interest is another.  the wii is appealing to the general public, it's doing it's fair share.  cost will come down, but Sony in this aspect is doing the opposite by introducing complex Cell architecture which most programmers don't really understand.  maybe sony is investing for the future.  but as john maynard keynes said, "in the long run, we're all dead."  sony is looking too far into the future.

the Wii is an epidemic.

This thread is a joke... I truly wish people who fancied themselves important in a forum, or believe because they post so much they must know what they are talking about would just stop posting... Is this what this forum is for? Someone says something, then everyone comes in and a war gets rolling? I hope not. Fad or not, Nintendo Wii is going to change things, and people need to get used to it. So what if cheaper games are made. More games means more choices. It helps little companies that don't have $20 million dollars make a game. Rather then fight a fight that's very pointless, let's all be gamers and go play some games!

I am Daemon. I am the Word.

Kwaad... This is just the highest possible number Nintendo could come up with... They're counting everything... Probably including localizations... Its just supposed to sound impressive, not be taken seriously...

Just because... Here is a list of upcoming Nintendo-published Wii games...

Forever Blue
Pokemon Revolution
Kirby
Mario Party 8
Fire Emblem
Battalion Wars 2
Disaster
Mario Strikers
Big Brain Academy
Animal Crossing
Wii Health Pack
Wii Music
Super Mario Galaxy
HAMMER
DK Bongo
Metroid Prime
Smash Bros.

That's just announced titles. We've also heard talk of new Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus... And Nintendo often works by letting small teams spend a year or so developing unique gameplay mechanisms... Then they take the good ones, put whoever's team invented them in charge of a project with a more substantial workforce... And then Miyamoto sticks his nose in a year into development and tells them what to fix... They delay the game 6 months, and then it debuts to rave reviews... That's how Nintendo works... But for this giant number, they're probably counting half a dozen small teams that are just being given free rein to come up with new concepts...

And btw, I'm wondering which of the cheap games Nintendo has made have they sold for 50 bucks? Wii Sports is a pack-in, Wii Play is $10 + controller, Brain Age is $20... And casual games like Animal Crossing and Nintendogs probably have normal, longer development cycles. In fact Nintendo has made a point with DS to allow a wide variety of price points (the caveat being that they rarely cut prices). I expect that Wii-branded titles will largely be $30 or $40.

Edit: Oh, I remember. You felt ripped off by WarioWare... I'm not sure if you know, but about half of Wario comes AFTER the credits roll. There's a whole bunch of other stuff to unlock, of varying fun-ness. The best being Pyoro Z (something like that...) I don't feel too bad for you though, because the reviews mostly said it was a depthless game good for a casual party atmosphere.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Kwaad never unlocked all of the minigames in that game so he didn't 'finish' it like all of his precious 10 - 20 hour PS3 games. This thread is a joke, honestly you've just lost it Kwaad. Simple non complex games... so that means games like Tetris aren't allowed? Why not? I like my epic movies as well as the simple comedies from one genre to the next, why not take advantage of all of that. And you're an idiot to say 124 games in dev and stuff about how quickly and low budget the games may be. 45 of them are for Wii.... Why am I even bothering to say anything here this whole thread is a farce.

Ok boys. This seems to have hit a nerve on you all. Why? (serious question)

As someone in here said. The Massive games I am talking about wont happen this generation. Why? Becuase of the Wii. Had the PS3/360 been the only consoles, or if the Wii was also as power, or at least 4x more powerful than it was, the games I am speaking of, would come to realisty this generation. It really takes more processor power than Graphics power. My theory game eats the processor for dinner. And yet, the Wii dont have enough power, and as long as the Wii dominates, the games will be based around 'wii power' style. And becuase of that, the massive epic games I am speaking of WONT COME.

This is my grudge agianst the Wii. It is going to effect ME. on the PS3. If I buy Nintendo, or not. It is gonna effect me, as if the Wii wins like everyone here thinks it will. We will see NES style games. And I do see a game collapse coming. I think consoles will die agian. I'm starting to think more and more, that the next consoles to come, will fail.

EDIT: Just curious. Why all the hate? Second. How much time have each of you spent on this thread for your info? Because I've done less than 30 minutes. It seems like I started a fire, and all the Wii boys are dancing around it throwing fuel in it, makeing it worse. I find it really funny. :D

I fly this flag in victory!

Please don't feed Kwaad with worthless arguments, just let him keep dreaming about his importance in the gaming industry and let the topic die.

Ok, I only skimmed through most replies so please excuse me if some of this has already been said and I'll try to keep it short. 1) it's 124, not 134 2) Iwata said himself that many of these games won't see the light of day... for all we know, 10 of those 45 wii titles are just "untitled tech demo 2" and won't make it past conceptual stages. 3) 3rd party games published by nintendo are also considered... this takes a large burden off nintendo's shoulders from a development standpoint. 4) you've contradicted yourself many times... but I won't get into that as it's kinda off topic 5) " I think consoles will die agian. I'm starting to think more and more, that the next consoles to come, will fail. "- actually, it's just the opposite. This gen would have NO HYPE if it was the same crap from last gen AKA better graphics and processors. Consoles would lose mass appeal and become as much of a niche market as PC gaming. 6) The large majority of people don't want 180 hour RPG's before sidequests... most people don't have the time to spend all day collecting crap and leveling up. You, Kwaad, are a very niche market and FYI- Super Smash bros. brawl is a MUCH more complex game than lair, Heavenly Sword, or God of War are... I think your confusing complexity for epic adventures. 7) These 45 wii games aren't coming in 1 year... and not only that, but this list of 45 games includes ones already announced. This means the Wii list is already down to 25 games or so of unannounced things... Do you honestly think 25 Nintendo published titles from the end of 2007 into, lets say, the end of 2009 is a bad thing?

We have all the power in this, Kwaad. If those 45 games or whatever suck, then no one will buy it and the industry will have to focus on more big budget games. How can you rip on Nintendo for giving people what they want? You can't force feed them "more complex big budget games" or whatever if the general populous doesn't want it. I think the beef you have is that not everyone has the same gaming tastes as you.

LOL you just bait people with rediculous opinions and logic.  It doesn't hit a nerve on people, people just like to argue your stupidity sometimes (it happens all the time, I myself have been baited in before).
