Forums - Sony Discussion - As Long as Numbers Can Be Fudged Upwards...

Ivader, although you're right about the numbers being nudged downwards, the gap between 360 and PS3 is much higher than it was before, and whereas the PS3 was ahead of the 360 in EU by 300k, it's now below it by quite some gap, which is upsetting to see... again.

Although I think the Wii needs to fall of quickly, it's now even closer to owning 50% of the market!

I'm saying MS has enough power to have any numbers in the industry they want fudged fudged.  Also with some of the mods rushing to ban anyone that says one negative thing even if truthful about a competing console, I do sense a little anti-Sony sentiment in some quarters.  Mainly a sentiment that quite a few don't want Sony to come on strong and finish first or second.

Why?  Is it a dictatorship?  I still have some speculations that I would like to see how they turn out.

Wow. You are a fullblown conspiracy theorist. And you are basing this theory on that you don't think the gap is bigger than 5.5 millions. I quite like that the only reason you think this is because you have had access to the numbers from the same sources that you are now claiming are decieving us all. There's a bit of irony in there.

I'm going by the fact that as soon as MS released their latest report about how many units they had sold there seemed to be quite a bit of backpedaling as to what the actual margins between the consoles were.

Firstly, Sony isn't going to finish first.

Ultimately all companies are obliged to provide accurate sales figures to their shareholders, Microsoft included. So why on earth would they bother to have any source 'fudge' figures for them when in the end they are going to have to report the truth?

It could be in their shareholders interests for them to be higher.

The 'backpedaling' was just after the nintendo report, as I understand it.

It was after Microsoft announced that they had sold 38 million units a couple of weeks ago.  Although backpedalling after a Nintendo report might indicate some pro-Nintendo bias.

So MS continually lies about the sales figures of their system and pays off several sources to fudge figures... to what end?  MS has lost boatloads of cash on Xbox but still makes obscene amounts from their other businesses.  Fudging sales figures by a couple of million is really going to do very little for their bottom line so again I ask , why would they bother?

Hey guys, I believe the Wii has 90% market share, and the 360 has only sold 2 million units, and Metal Gear Solid 4 sold a billion copies. Can I be mad at VGChartz because they are proving my idiotic fantasies wrong too?

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Bragging rights.  They made it pretty apparent at E3 2008 that they want to beat PS3 this gen.

So, let me get this straight.
As long as the numbers in this site (since PS3 relaunch in September) indicate a significant PS3 rise, all are good and cozy.
When the numbers are adjusted after a holiday season, that is a critical period that errors can be made, it is M$ that FUDGES the numbers.
...
I have no other comments your lordship...

Er try closer to 39 million ... and this conspiracy theory of yours is ridiculous. Microsoft can't lie to shareholders about it's sales. They have to tell the truth.
