Home console jrpgs just seem hopelessly stale to me now. I took a break from them over the entire fall thinking I just had burnout and needed to take a break from them. Then I tried SO4 recently, was bored out of my mind (a supposedly good combat system doesn't mean jack when most battles are boring) and send it back. So seeing this news (Famitsu also rated it poorly) is disheartening. I just can't sit through a home console jrpg anymore. Their stories are severely over-rated (including FF7, the ultimate j-pop emo young adult soap opera). If I want a story, I'd rather watch TV, a movie, animu, read a book or play a visual novel. And their gameplay is sub-par, tedious and feels like a job rather than fun. Yet somehow, I can still play handheld jrpgs no problem and have fun. Etrian Odyssey for eg.

White Knight Chronicles apparently fits within the same damn console jrpg formula and western game reviewers are just sick it. And rightfully so. Even Famitsu gave it lacklustre grades.

You've played Final Fantasy XIII? How come you didn't say so before? Its to bad then that you didn't enjoy it. But what do you need Versus XIII for when we have Xenoblade :) It will save this generation of mostly lackluster jrpgs. Only Tales of Vesperia, Valkyria Chronicles, Lost Odyssey, Demon Souls and from what I've heard, Disgaea 3, Resonance of Fate, Final Fantasy XIII (I know alot of people who loved it though I know quite a few people who were disappointed by it, but thats how it is for pretty much every FF game since FF7) and Tales of Graces (I want this game to be localized NOW) have been awesome jrpgs this gen. What happened to my favorite genre? This is absolutely heartbreaking. Xenoblade, please rescue my beloved jrpgs.


Versus XIII/Xenoblade/The Last Story/Tales of Graces/Arc Rise Fantasia/Resonance of Fate/FF XIII/DQ X will deliver us from bad RPGs lol.

You honestly think Xendoblade, Arc Rise, or Resonance of Fate are going to score that much higher than the "bad RPGs"

The console jrpg games have you played this gen? SO4 is probably the worst of the pile of lackluster jrpgs this gen.

Xenoblade will score great. I'm 100% sure on that. Don't put it in the same sentence as Arc Rise Fantastic.

gonna post my own video review later, im abit of a mess right now, semi-drunk to boot.

i'll make a review tomorrow night, this game is NOT story strong, its pure customization.
