Your attempt at sarcasm is pretty poor, because with the PSP Go Sony now has not just bad software sales, but also bad hardware sales. Therefore pushing the PSP Go is indeed a stupid idea.

pushing a portable ps2 (the psp) was always a bad idea. handhelds and hardcore gamers dont go well together. and if they release a psp2 now and they try pushing a portable x360. the same thing is going to happehn, hackers nerds a whiners are going to hack the hell out of it and sony is going to waste time and resources tryng to sell software for the damn thing.

ya...selling 54 million psp's was such a waste of resources......

yeah, because software support and development is so cheap and the ps3 dint need any games back then

^Let's not forget that Sony is generating a profit off of the overall PSP platform. (Sony needs to update the PS3 broswer)

dont become one of them, the ps3 browser is fine. iwant to play games with my ps3 , the ps3 is not a pc. and this is the gaming industry , you need to sell games. nintendo made a profit off the n64 ante gamecube but they werent too happy because the profit was too small. thats why they changed their whole busnnes model, gave the finger to hardcore gamers and released the wii. maybe sony should do the same with the psp2.

It was fun messing around with you, but now I let you in on the secret why PSP software sales are abysmal.

1. The games

Most of them aren't worth paying for, because they are dumbed down versions of home console games. The solution to this problem would be original games and look at the sales charts: Those PSP games actually do sell. Unfortunately for Sony, there are just way too few of those games, so overall software sales look terrible when compared to other platforms.

2. Multimedia functions

Video games compete with other forms of entertainment. Sony's mistake was to highlight multimedia as selling point, the result was that many PSPs out there were mainly bought for music or movies. But the big money in video games comes from selling software, the games.

1. i disagree. tahts just your opinion. sony is wasting tons of resources trying to make games for a system tahts pretty much dead bacause third party will never support it bacuse of piracy.and whitout third party support... well we should ask the gamecube and the n64 about that.

2. i agree thats part of the problem.

To OP, the reception in Japan seems awesome. The PSP sells as much as the Wii or DS lately. Even in america PSP is selling more than 360, almost as much as the PS3. So its far from being flop. But im sure as the OP said, that a new marketing campaing could yield higher result.

It just goes to show. With enough money and hype, you can beat a dead horse. PSPGo is a massive dud, they better do more than "relaunch". It needs a redesign.

@HDuser

Maybe this will happen I cant see the benefit in a relaunch if the Hardware  is unchanged.

I think the main problem is the price. And the ability not to play your UMD games. 250 dollar just 50 Dollar under a PS3 ?? And even then you cant play your old games on it ? if someones PSP broke why should he buy a PSP Go ? I cant see a reason. With Dual Analog sticks and the ability to play your UMDs and a much lower price 149 would be good it could be big even ourside of Japan.

How does no UMD drive keep games from being pirated? I'm not really following the PSP GO homebrew scene, but I'm pretty sure that if it isn't hacked it's only a matter of time, nothing to do with a UMD drive.

ecxactly, thats why sony should leave the handheld market, if those hackers and psp whiners are so smart they should realese and produce a psp2 themselfs.

You make it sound like DS has no piracy. By your standard, Nintendo should leave the handheld market too.

Also, since there are piracy on Wii, 360 and PC as well, I guess companies should stop making games.

While i dont agree that sony should ever quit the handheld market comparing the psp to the ds, wii or xbox is such a joke. Piracy is insane on the psp mostly cause its easy to do. I should know i have 2 hacked psp's and know nothing about computers or the inner workings of my game consoles. What i do know is to hack other systems its alot harder and alot more riskier. Its so easy i learned how to hack my psp on youtube after 5 minutes.

Based on what I see on the net, DS with R4 is way easier than hacking the PSP-3000.

What's so special about PC and PSP games that hardcore gamers don't want to pay for them?

Or is it the fact that these platforms can be pirated so easily? Then again, it doesn't take a lot of effort to play pirated games on the DS either (R4).

yes, but the psp is way more powerful. and you can use it to do more things, no just for gaming(like a pc). i read somwhere that you can play ds games on your psp if you hack it correctly

Then you are blaming the multimedia function of PSP for its poor software sales, not the piracy. Also, are you suggesting that people can hack PSP to play DS games so that PSP owners don't buy PSP games?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Release 32gb PSPgo at the current PSPgo price point. Drop the 16gb $50-100. Fracking get more PSP games on PSN.

And no, please don't go back to the UMD. It's a dead format.
