Forums - General Discussion - Holy Vancouver! It's The 2010 Winter Olympics Discussion Thread!

@izaaz101 Yes, I meant for my country. As far as I know there are 3 Olympic champions already.

Yeah, I just saw that. They all seem so very tired after that - a few collapsed right after crossing the finish line. Taking only 20 minutes to go 7.5 km is very impressive.

Canada ahs its 1st medal!

a silver in Women's moggls! cognrats Jen!

The 1500m Short Track Final was an amazing race. Apolo Ohno just squeezed out second. I can't believe South Korea almost had all 3 medals until 2 took each other out.

That finish was epic.

America pwned everyone on day-1. I am very surprised. I left my house after that young Canadian girl finished her fantastic Mogul race, only to find out the Americans sandwiched the canuck's first medal of the olympics.

I guess being in so close proximity, this is considered a home game for us yanks too, eh?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Canada...So close to getting that gold medal. Sorry Jen.

Did anyone see that guy that nearly fell off his slide, but managed to get back on?

I forgot just how awesome short track speed skating is... that shit is intense. The 1500m race was epic.

Europeans can't shoot a gun to save their lives.

That is all.

That is certainly a skill where we Americans excel.

Had the torch come through my town a few weeks back. Apparently there were protesters decrying the games as a tool of colonialism.

I don't get it. I understand the Olympics as a symbol of humanity, peace, sportsmanship, or orgiastic capitalist excess, but what is the basis behind the idea of colonialism? Rich countries importing athletes from poorer countries, maybe. Does anybody get this?

I'd guess it'd have to do with the western countries having HUGE advantages... and poorer countries being even lucky to be able to have someone compete... and if they do they're often klive in the richer countries.

They kinda go over a different theory here... no sure how much it has to do with colonialism though.  Guess point 2.

That site is hilarious, Kasz.

Its saying that Olympics should never be held because cities that host them have homelessness. Just laughable. I can somewhat understand the argument that BC is native land, but outside of that, its a riot!
