Me and Demotruk were discussing this, actually. I don't blame them for the decision, but this sure is ironic.

So, that's a pretty big confimation that vgchartz's North American Wii number is undertracked. If there really were 1.2 million Wiis in the channel, and on stores shelves at the end of December, there wouldn't be any shortages right now.
Not surprised. After a record breaking month in December..I mean what it broke PS2's record by nearly 1m? Yeah that's insane. So shortages doesn't seem like a far fetched explanation.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
How many Wiis are Nintendo producing per month after they have cut back production? I have to know this cause I will be going with an optimistic prediction for the Wii in 2010
We know from news reports that they cut production in November, just before Wii sales began to surge again..
(Presumably they had already cut production at some point in 09)

WOW! The demand for Wii never ceases to amaze me. In short supply for the first 2 years of its life and beyond. Finally enough supply for its 3rd holiday season, it sells HUGE amounts and breaks records. Demand so high that there is shortages in January. Can only wonder how high sales would have been last month without shortages!
Surely this sort of thing is unprecedented for home consoles? Think it's safe to say the Wii has turned the corner.

Exactly. Nintendo are geniuses.

Nightsurge is probably right. We heard very few reports of Wii shortages in December other than Gamestop complaining about that blizzard on the east coast. It's probably just stores clearing out inventory in anticipation of the black Wiis.

Black Wii's aren't going to replace white Wii's, so there is no reason to clear out stock. If they were, they cleared out stock a little too fast considering the shortages have been for the last couple of weeks.
