Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Should Stump Up The Cash For Shenmue III

I agree with you CGI.

Sony is the most likely of the 3 powerhouses to do something with Sega on a topic like this.

Also I think Sega has really become a reliable company for PlayStation. Most of their recent games have been exclusive to a PlayStation platform or at least on a PlayStation platform.

Yakuza has always been exclusive, Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2, Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 2, Bayonetta and Resonance of Fate.

Why should Sony pay millions to get the rights to a weak franchise? Shenmue didn't help sell Dreamcast consoles (even with its million in sales). It certainly didn't do well on XBOX (dropping down to only 300,000 sold compared ot its predecessor). And frankly, it is little more than an afterthought in the mind of Sega fans and 'what if' hardcore fans who remember the days of the Dreamcast.

What could it possibly hope to benefit going to the PS3 aside from some dry hype and hopefully selling to some Sega fans....which are mostly buying Wii games?

1. It's a Japanese-centric title just like Yakuza.

2. It's Playstation and the Japanese respond in a descriminant fashion to consoles as well as the games. The Xbox version was a weak attempt to draw westerners to this game.

3. Why shouldn't Shenmue get the benefit of the doubt when Shenmue 1 & 2 nearly sold 2 million copies here and abroad? If you want to go on judging great games that don't sell in a stellar fashion on a Sony system go after Team ICO games as well.

I don't see Shenmue III being all that big of a game honestly. Lot's of loyal fans, but not compared to the mass of gamers as a whole.

The game should be multi-plat, it would sell well on both console's together better than on a lone one.

Obviously this is not a smart response. Sega cannot afford to fund Shenmue 3. If Sony (not Microsoft) publishes Shenmue 3 with proper marketing the game can sell over a million. The last time Shenmue was on a Japanese made system it sold over a million. Do not sell it short because it was on the Xbox. That was the worst mistake Sega ever made.

@S.T.A.G.E. agreed to all your above posts and just in to say:
