I stopped reading here.

especially the red part.

Ugh, I missed that part.  I suddenly don't care about anything he has to say because as far as I'm concerned my 75 year old nana who bought a Wii because...I don't know why is more of a gamer than him.

I don't think his opinion could count for less.

how about those crazy jellyfish?

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

5. Most important part is the rpg elements and they are just bla bla bla. Let me explain: If you can skip parts or all talking, why add so much talking? Surely no-one is playing this game for the action elements. The story so far seems it`s taken right out of Babylon 5 series. Aliens poor designed. No realism in a far future where aliens co-exist with humans. No depth. I`m only 4 hours into the game, but still I`m bored with the conversation and skip a lot unless it`s the main story.

Worst moment: When I became a spectre and the hollywood music roared in the backround.

Wait, you're complaining that you can skip dialogue?  I understand complaining about not being able to skip dialogue but I would never think I would see the day about complaining being able to skip the dialogue.

If you play through the game more than once, then you can perfectly understand why you skip dialogue.

Now of course that's different than X being able to skip dialogue and select dialogue options, I want to shoot whoever made that decision.

And yes, they absolutely nailed the title screen, I've never seen a more perfect title screen than Mass Effects.

Not only was the same button to skip and select a terrible choice, but even after it became clear it was a terrible choice they used that approach again on PC!

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Despite all that its still an amazing game. I'll admit ME has some flaws, but it has become one of my favorite games.

Seriously?  Does it get radically better after 20 hrs? Because as it is I am sick of watching my tag along buddies arrange themselves in such a fashion that they manage to shoot each other in the back while I shoot down enemies who's only tactic seems to be to rush at me.

The story is good, but the gameplay is what kills it for me.  Most of the side missions have no point other than to get useless ass credits, you can't acces your journal while looking at the star map, and some of the driving level design boggles my mind.  Also: WTF is up with the character leveling system? It looks like it was ripped straight out of one of Bioware's 10 year old RPG's.  Only able to use 2 weapons and some force powers?  Wheres the variety?

I think the thing that irks me the most is that I went into the game really expecting to like it.  I like WRPGs and I'd read a lot of good things about this one.  The game just seems so static to me.  Nothing seems to be changing; there are no new challenges presented, very little enemy variety, and hardly any new bases to explore.

So, having said all that; Should I play Mass Effect 2?  A buddy lent it to me shortly after I bought ME (he loves it btw), but I was thinking about just giving it back to him.

I'm a bit late to the party and finished the game about half a month ago and wow it's fucking awesome.
Almost as good as KOTOR. The only real flaw were the side missions and the elevator rides. Everything else was top notch (played PC version)
Easily in my top 5 WRPG's of all time.

@epoch

yeah it does get better after 20 hours

some stuff happens in the story that gets you a lot more into it

i too was bored early with it as i compared it to the much better KOTOR

at a certain point tho i was like 'oh this is cool'

I don't think Joker ever actually said anything funny in Mass Effect. He was given that name because he was always so serious when he was in the academy. Plus, he has really brittle bones. Don't talk badly about Mass Effect's Joker.

i hate seth green, so i loved just telling him to shut up or diss him in the game

tons of fun being evil in bioware games

being good i dont even bother with anymore, such a boring chore

I started to play #1(on PC) and here`s my first impressions:

1. Fantastic title screen music. Perfect for a space game.

2. Creating character is a tad better than oblivion iv(dunno why I compare to that game), but characters still look crappy. Need a mod perhaps.

3. I puked when I saw and heard joker. Why can`t western developers create life-like computer characters. Even when the graphics are amazing they look like dolls. And why open the game with a filthy clichè character like him?

4. The aiming in combat is unaccurate. The strategy is non-existent. Trying to command troops is hopeless. Equipment system works great.

5. Most important part is the rpg elements and they are just bla bla bla. Let me explain: If you can skip parts or all talking, why add so much talking? Worst moment: When I became a spectre and the hollywood music roared in the backround.

6. Level design is poor. Example: the first city you`re in is lifeless and hard to navigate in.

These are my first impressions. I might have another go, but the will to continue is low so far.

Maybe mass effect 2 is better, but I hate to play a second part of a game when the first is not finished.

I wanted to play this game because I expected it to be a a+ game and read so much positive in us reviews.

So far I`m massively dissapointed.

Thanks for reading.

Wow, and you didn't say anything about the massive pop-in, screen-tearing and abysmal framerate drops... I guess you're in for a ride.Hopefully you won't run into the game-crashing glitch I got hit with (one I was lucky to recover from because I always keep 2 different saves. Had I stayed on the self-saved file alone I would've been screwed 11 hours into the game).

So my word of advice and don't take it lightly. KEEP TWO DIFFERENT SAVES and save for yourself as often as possible.I wonder how a game with so many technical issues and game-destroying glitches can be awarded with such high scores....I guess not being from Quantic Dream helps?
