Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I'm just wondering what happens to the videogame consoles that are returned by customers and kept as open boxes, or the consoles that become defective? Do they contribute to adjustments by any chance? Can it be possible that due to the Christmas rush being over and the return season upon us, that the sales were adjusted?

They are resold as refurbished/opened items at a discounted price.

In many cases this is true but I wouldn't guarantee it.  I was recently working on a persuasive letter assignment for my technical writing course and in looking for information about OtherOS support I came across a response to Sony from the FTC on this matter.  It seems that its possible some consoles may be resold as new provided that certain guarantees can be made about the circumstances of their return.

No, I realize that, but do these resells count towards the total again? So for example, if I bought a PS3, didn't like it, returned it, and then some other customer bought my open box PS3, does that count as 2 sales?

Or if my 360 breaks down, I send it in to get fixed and they send me a brand new one and sell the refurbished one to another customer...does that count as 3 sales?

WOW that was huge adjusment. I wonder why Wii remain same while both hd console adjusted down. At this rate Wii might have chance to have 50% market share. PS3 now below X360 in others. This prove why X360 SW beat PS3 SW for that region. Which region cause this adjustment. PSP beat X360 again. Microsoft needs to do something.
