Higher color depth? What are you talking about? Also, 1080p players offer no advantage over 1080i players. The display can take advantage of either signal in the same way.

Quoted for Truth.

As far as interlaced/progressive support in the player, this is effectively the transport. If you're watching a 30fps movie and updating an interlaced image at 60fps, you'll get exactly the same frame as if you were using a progressive scan player.

The A2 is a *really* nice player. It actually has higher end conversion for TrueHD->optical out than the A3, and it has a phenominal DAC. Mine updated itself (with internet access) yesterday.

Very few people have HDMI 1.3 sets right now.  It doesn't make sense to wait to get an HDMI 1.3 capable HD-DVD player if you don't have an HDMI set and there isn't any content to take advantage of it anyhow.

Wow ssj12, wtf? Way to just rip on something because you aren't a supporter of it. That ps3 you and I bought is just a waste right now too, so what? Not only that, everyone who bought a BD player is going to have to upgrade to a new one once the new discs start coming out, since they wont support the new content and cant play the larger size discs, even with a firmware update...thanks toshiba, for looking out for your customers. Is it possible to leave your bias out of a topic regarding BD or sony for once?

1. The current gen palyers can pay the 100GB discs. That was announced in a firmware update ages ago.

2. Blu-ray 1.1 duiscs are out and current players can paly them just with reduced features.

3. I'm wasting my time with my PS3? I still havent beaten Folklore or R&C yet... and I bought 5 new Blu-ray movies.

4. If you noticed I used facts that I know of. The fact that Blu-ray is out selling HD-DVD is a well known fact.

5. Frankly I would have suggested the $250 HD-DVD player lol. Might be more expensive but it supports 1080p and higher colour depth.

6. Even I just admited Blu-ray will probably fall to the protein and holo-discs. And I'd be happy as hell to see it happen. 1 holo disc = 1 terabyte. =]

I'm just gonna comment on 2 things here. "2. Blu-ray 1.1 duiscs are out and current players can paly them just with reduced features." Shouldn't be reduced anything, up till recently BD players were 600$+ should play everything at any size regardless. If by reduced features you mean the fact that older BD players don't support 1.3 HDMI well that's just fine, I don't know of any tv's that do yet either. "5. Frankly I would have suggested the $250 HD-DVD player lol. Might be more expensive but it supports 1080p and higher colour depth." HDMI 1.3 offeres higher color depth but other then that 1080i and 1080p are the same short of frame rate. Everything recorded, as far as I know, is done so in 24 FPS. Any good LCD/Plasma TV actually will de-interlace the source before displaying it. Regardless of 1080p or 1080i there will be duplicated frames(that's you're 3:2 pull down) in order to fill the excess frame. The only place 1080p and 1080i will be noticeable is in larger tv's (42"+) from the perfect distance(varies for size) and only with a digital source(PC, game console etc) not for TV or movies.. as they're shot in 24Frames and the only real difference in 1080i and 1080p is 30 frames... (1080i= 30FPS 1080p = 60 FPS) Maybe in the future we'll have material shot in higher frame rates.. but by then we'll probably have better resolutions too.. End of the day yeah 1080p is -slightly- better than 1080i but don't worry about it unless you mostly use the TV for games/pc and other digital sources. Even then it's really not worth the price difference unless you're a total videophile and going for a huge TV than maybe...

Look, Ive said it many time I'll say it again. Dont waste your money on the loosing format.

$98 for a top-end DVD player and high end CD player is a very, very good deal. Oh, and it plays HD-DVDs. You know, movies like Braveheart and Forest Gump. Movies you can't get on BD.

Your argument could be applied to consoles as well, you know.  Don't waste your money on the losing console, right?

Would that be Euros, Dollars or Pounds? Loosely speaking.

I just want to point out, being better doesn't mean it will win the "Format" war. Gamecube was technically better than PS2, Beta was technically better than VHS etc.

There's no justice in these wars and as often as not the "Better" format doesn't win.

The more players HDDVD will sell, the more they will close the gap on movies sold.
Leo, if you dont want people to spend money on the losing format, then why did you buy a ps3? I only bought one because I already had a 360, and didn't want a wii at the time ( couldnt get ahold of one either).

leo, banned...for what? I know you must be kidding because everyone says that same thing about you, its ok, clearly you are confused. You upset because I trash the PS3...which by the way I own? At least I try to offer something more to this conversation than you do, all your comments consist of either putting down the opposition, 360 or HDDVD in most cases, absolutely no facts to back of your arguments, and blind bias for the company you support. You are quite the comedian. Oh and ssj, I'm sorry, I will eat my words, last time I heard that 100gb wouldn't work, clearly things have changed, my apologies in that respect. Although I am still upset that early adopters will lost features on the new revision of the format, especially when they all paid 600+ for their bd player, that really is a shame.
