Forums - Sony Discussion - Temporary YLOD?

So, I was playing ACII: Battle of Forli and suddenly, in the middle of a cutscene, it crashed. Not just that, though. It went onto standby, then turned off and the indicator started flashing red. So, I turned it off, and on again. It became red, then green, then a quick flash of yellow, then flashing red again. I almost had a heart attack.

So I turned it on from the main switch, and turned it on from the front, and it seems to be working fine. It's on the XMB. Should I just leave it alone for a few hours? Has this happened to anyone else?

UPDATE: Well, the PS3 manages to stay on for about 15-20 minutes before going back into dead mode.

I've contacted Sony and Console Doctor. Neither has replied. Console Doctor apparently charges £70 for YLOD repairs, and gives you back your old console. They pay for delivery back to you, but you have to pay for delivery there.

I've heard Sony charges £120 and gives you a refurb. That wouldn't be good.

Alternatively, am I overreacting, and is this a simple problem that I can fix?

Don't you love this current generations console reliability? Btw if you can get a backup of your saved games you could simply buy a slim?

A Slim is £250. Repairing this one is £70. If I wanted a new, 160GB hard drive, that would be another £40.

I save £140, and I get to keep the cool glossy design.

Hairdryer.

just let it sit for a while and do NOT use a hairdryer.

try deleting some assets from games you don't play anymore, and try to keep it offline.
