Forums - Sony Discussion - God of War III begins Marketing Push with 7-Eleven, Mtn Dew

I feel like this is a wasted effort and I also hope I am extremely wrong.

To me GoW is a story driven title, without increased sales of GoW Collection and/or the PS2 titles I don't see how people who haven't played both are going to rush out and buy GoW3 without knowing what the hell is going on.

They will see that it is the end of the trilogy and either buy the previous two or possibly skip the game altogether.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this advertising should have gone to a new IP or something that isn't so story heavy. God of War 3 would have sold itself.

GoW collection was a pretty key release. As the hype builds up for GoW 3 more new players will probably pick it up before GoW 3.

Unless GoW Collection sales begin to light up the charts I don't expect too much out ofall of this. Maybe this ad compaign will help, who knows?

I am just saying that I feel Sony should have showcased MAG a bit more or White Knight Chronicles or Heavy Rain. Instead they are giving a game with previous sales of 3M+ and 2.5M+ whos 3rd game's sales most likely depend on the previous game's customers all this ad support.

Unless we see a big shift in GoW Collection sales I can't see this game approaching anything beyond the 3.5-4M mark. I hope I'm wrong though, I really do because GoW is awesome.

Anyone care to argue that Halo was overhyped for having this, while God of War isn't?

Why are you even trying to turn this into a battle? I mean, can't any thread be peaceful without this sort of stuff, serioulsy?

hey now, some people here are trying to argue

That's just it though, this wasn't meant for any of that. Threads are too often derailed senselessly.

look who's derailing the thread now...

OT: I'm gunna run across the street and check out if the cups are in and whether or not they will break street date!!

Ok, you aren't making much sense. A response to you is derailing now?

depends on how many responses you indulge me with...

OT: I hope they have the sour flavor, or something bitter. A sugary taste just doesn't mesh well with my Kratos.

Exactly!! Im not saying Sony shudn't market this game at all but new IP's needs more attention for them to actually be successful rather than established IP which ppl will sure to buy.

Well, it worked in Halo 3's favor. I'm guessing Sony took notes.

Halo 3 already had a gigantic fanbase behind it though, GoW fanbase doesn't even compare. You could also play Halo 3 without playing any of the previous titles due to it's multiplayer, which in my opinion has always been Halo's best strength when it came to sales.

I am only saying that GoW3 would have sold great regardless of this ad campaign as evident from the preorder numbers we are already seeing, however a game like WKC is looking too good right now. WKC also has a sequel set to release and putting money into WKC advertising wouldn't only help it's sales right now, but it would also help to build a stronger base for the release of the second title.

Start off slow with WKC and don't expect much of anything from Sony when it comes to it's sequel because the sequels sales will most likely follow the sales of the original since it is story driven.

Wait,...Slurpee decides if something is overhyped or not?

When discussions of Halo being overhyped is brought up, out come pictures of Mountain Dew and Slurpee Halo products.  I figured I would ask if anyone felt that was so, if they felt the same of God of War having this.

I personally don't consider it a sign of being overhyped.  I do consider it a sign of a company heavily marketing a game they have.

What I'm saying is, the Halo fanbase expanded with 3. The franchise was not as big last gen as it is today, not even close. What's to stop the God of War franchise from doing the same with a similar marketing push is all I'm saying?

Halo2 sold almost 9M.

God of War could expand from this of course, but it still doesn't have the multiplayer factor like Halo 3 did. In Halo's case you could still play it and not know anything about the storyline. I think God of War is a much different case.

Like I said though, I could end up completely wrong.

Wouldn't you personally like to see this for something like Heavy Rain or WKC to help sales of future projects from the devs and/or the inevitable WKC sequel?

people keep forgetting that gow collection has not been released in EU yet. Sales so far have only come from americas. With this marketing push and release of gow collection in the eu and japan, it may help push sales both; gow coll and gow 3.

Oh absolutely. I just think Sony feels their intense marketing cards would better suit the industry if it went towards a franchise the size and scope of God of War. I know, it kind of shows a lack of faith in your other projects which is a little disappointing. But I guess if they could only choose one, God of War III is the appropriate one for Q1.

All I know is, they better do this for Killzone 3, GT5, Resistance 3, & inFAMOUS 2 as well. Those games could do wonders, IMO, with that kind of intense marketing, ESPECIALLY Killzone.

I don't know, I would much rather see this. I think it would be cooler.

Or maybe even some Mountain Dew Pixel Fuel.

Maybe even get a deal wih Ragu for "Retro Style" tomato sauce.

Ooo Oooo!!! How about "V-8Bit Vegetable Juice"? O_o
