Forums - General - Sky 3D confirmed April launch

This should definately help 3D adoption rates. The fact that major broadcasters are pushing the technology so soon is good news. It's even better that you don't have to upgrade your Sky (and maybe Virgin) box to support it. I wonder whether the World Cup will help give 3D tv's a large boost over the summer.

Around the Network

Would be nice if they could have all channels in HD first.

I hate 3D glasses, most irritating thing in the world because I have to wear them ON TOP of my normal glasses >_>

it might do.... and virgin wont get this for a while I think.

Im just glad they wont be increasing my HD subscription to allow this.

Still not clear on the Tv I will need though... I might check out the sky website and see if they have alist maybe.

Virgin are appartantly capable of supporting 3D through their current HD box but whether they will have the content to show as early as Sky is unlikely. They were very slow at rolling out HD channels and I would expect Sky to keep much of their 3D content (Sports/Movie channels) to themselves for a while.

The subscription thing is surprising. They usually role out new technology to reinvigorate the market or to justify a price increase. As they claim 3D will work with the current HD box and that subscription prices will remain the same it doesn't seem to be doing either of those. Perhaps they are really going in for the kill with Virgin and trying to take as much market share as possible.
