Forums - Gaming Discussion - IGN: Best Games of 2002

I never said Warcraft III wasn't a good game. It certainly is. My only issue is that Age of Mythology was just as good, and arguably better, yet it never garnered the attention Warcraft did.

The majority of the Warcraft's praise comes from its robust map editor, but Age of Mythology had an equally impressive level creation system, yet was for the most part ignored (commercially - thankfully not critically, at least not at the time), and it's unfair.

The online in Warcraft 3 was simply brilliant. I've never really liked the RTS part of the game (lol) but I played the online so much. Sheep Tag FTW!

Oh yeah and don't forget that Warcraft 3 is where the Tower Defense genre started and also DOTA.

Metroid Prime > Kingdom Hearts

Have you ever played Kingdom Hearts?

I personally haven't played Metroid so I won't say anything.

Yes, I have.

My favorite level was Agrabah. Traverse Town was pretty sweet. I spent forever on Destiny Islands leveling up.

... *is doubtful*

Why don't you have a PS2 then? You must try Kingdom Hearts 2 if you haven't.

I played Kingdom Hearts, and while both Metroid Prime and KH are great games, I believe MP is more so.

Anyway, I haven't played Battlefield, so I can't comment that Metroid Prime should be #1.

I like age of empires to, but i think Warcraft III is great because it takes place ... in the warcraft world. and the level creation was pretty vast.

My sister has a PS2 and every Square Enix game, like ever. I don't need to own a system to play the damn game. Ocarina of Time is my favorite game ever and I don't have an N64.

Tower Defense sprung up around the same time in Age of Mythology,  There were numerous gametypes that started in one and soon jumped to the other (Footman Frenzy another favorite of WCIII, Mythodea and Cat & Mouse more popular on AoM).
