In regards to the NPD bit as well, he didn't elaborate at all, just talked about numbers from "retail partners".  Which means he could've been confusing shipments, overall North America or any other number of things.  And this siras talk is pure speculation, and pretty ungrounded at that.

Do you call this -

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2445987.html

"In addition to Nintendo of America, SiRAS' first announced clients include Philips/Magnavox and Sega of America."

- pure speculation and ungrounded?

He means that the guy was quoting Siras numers.

Considering he got two other things wrong/off company line in the interview... I can see why he'd hold that opinion.

That and he actually said something that wasn't Siras.  From a source that likely isn't sellthrough related.

No, but I also didn;t hear anything about Siras mentioned.  I heard "retail partners".  People are connecting dots that don't exist here.

And again, if NPD were really trending 30% under, Nintendo wouldn't cite them for their investors...

@ jarrod

Well, considering Siras calls those who participate with their program "retail partners", that might be very well what he is referring to. Then again, who knows, maybe Sega has its own methods for tracking. However, I'm going with the first.

As far as the V.O. for Yakuza 3 goes, maybe at that point in time they were still playing around with the idea of English voiceover. We don't know when that interview was recorded, as all the main page says it was recorded sometime before Christmas. The American release was only announced around early-mid Dec, though rumors were floating around much earlier. And even if it was after the announcement, they could still had been toying around with the idea of V.O., while telling the world it would only be English subtitles, just in case they still decided no. I would imagine he would have more insight into the topic as he works for Sega.

And when speaking of mature games, just keep in mind he was speaking specifically about Sega mature games. Also he says "probably not", not "oh hell no." He still says they'll make their numbers, it just takes longer with mature games on the Wii, if the game has legs. Also being the development director of SoA, I'm guessing he has quite a bit of control over what games they are going to be focusing on.

BTW did you get angry at the guy for downplaying Natal, as well?

I'm going to go with Xelloss. If you don't go in hating the guy, you get a different impression of the interview.

Siras calls their POP participators "retail partners".  Sega is one of their "clients".

The podcast was done sometime right before the new year, only a couple weeks prior to airing iirc.  A Yakuza 3 dub was never planned either as far as we know, and indeed everyone seemed pretty confused when it was mentioned as happening (not even as "was going to happen" but changed).  Hantzopoulos also doesn't seem to be directly involved in any localizations and he wasn't directly involved in any of Sega's "mature" Wii titles either going by credit checks.  He got a "special thanks" in Madworld though, along with like 20 other people/companies.

And he's no longer development director for SOA, he's studio director for Secret Level.

NPD claims many of these numbers are false.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Even if the numbers were real they'd have to say they were false.

So i guess by your logic, if the numbers are real, NPD has to make up some fake numbers now so they still can stick to their claim that most of them were completely false?

And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

NPD doesn't and won't even release those numbers.  So why would they need to make up fake ones?

As stated.  Companies can't post any info not related to their own franchises, and won't release franchise numbers so low.

Ok, i get it now. The numbers are correct because they are low.

Of course that is some solid ground to dismiss a detailed statement from NPD.

i am sorry for the Missunderstanding.

So, it's of your opinion... that if numbers released that are supposed to be known only by being paid for... NPD is going to say "yep, those are the numbers."

I mean, it says in that very article that one of the main points of NPD research is that comapnies can't release other companies numbers to respect their privacy.

Ergo, any leaked numbers need to be rebutted to you know.... protect those comapanies privacy.

It's common sense.

The numbers may or may not be real.  However NPD's response would be the same either way.  It's just like when information about videogame projects get released.  Real or not, companies dismiss them as fake.

God forbid somebody in the world ever lie when they have an actual reason to lie.
