Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN UK reviews MAG (7.6/10)

Oh... that's what I am talking about:

Zipper Producer: “MAG Is The Greatest Multiplayer Shooter I Know”

Maybe Sony should have made this for PC. PC Gamers wouldnt have complained about a PC only FPS... I guess PS3 fans cant handle a "hardcore" FPS like MAG... its to social for them. Games must be lifeless with a crappy singleplayer FPS story and play like Haze.

Same thing seemed to happen with Warhawk...

sad, but true imo.

Gamerstek 7.4/10

Pretty much they say it suffers because it doesn't have a single player campaign and then kind of tacked on that some people will go gung ho instead of follow the team.

In general the game is well done, with a good gameplay and good graphics, with particular emphasis on the maps.Failure, however, a distinction of the richest teams, both of skills, both in relation to the course of the game (not very noticeable separation of the PMCs by clothing during a battle). By fauling to offer a single player side only (ie, different from the way Suppression) still runs the risk of corrupting the main objective of the game - to be a massive multiplayer game with people to work together to achieve certain goals - losing some supporters to "shoot to kill". In the cases, what may begin as a game concept (enough) interesting can become, for whom it is interested in a frustrating experience.

80 isn't a bad score by any stretch of the imagination and even if it does settle around 80 that doesn't mean it still isn't worth getting a PS3 for. PS3 is the only console that offers a game of this size.

It is worth getting one if you wish to play something unique like this.

Not everything is based on reviews.

It's on 76 (metacritic) after the first day of the reviews! that is not good for a Sony exclusive that Zipper kept boosting about, even today they said MAG is not possible on the 360 (see CVG) due to the "powerz of the c3ll", why do they say silly things like that when the game is getting poor reviews on the first day!?!? shocking!

And also, as you know, Metacritic scores normally go down as more reviews get added, it hardly ever goes higher, 76 at the moment, that could eaily drop into the 60's within a few days, not saying it will but it could.

It's a 78 at the moment actually and if you read some of these reviews you will see that some are based on the beta and not the retail release. Servers only went up today.

Some of the other reviews that are based on the retail release I believe were done due to an event held by Zipper for these reviewers to play.

Also as I said read the reviews. If a 78 score that hits on graphics and awards the gameplay is considered bad than this gen's gamers are lost. My opinion anyways.

They also said it wasn't possible as well because of how LIVE is set up. I doubt P2P can support this at all.

They also asked someone to prove them wrong, which would need to happen before you can even try to debunk what they said. Huxley was supposed to be around half of MAG (120 players) and I am sure the 360 version got canned or put on hold indefinitely.

I only ask that people read the content and not just the end score. The end scores never match up correctly with what it written in the reviews since it is based on so many things. Look at Lost Odyssey for example, the game is praised by many yet according to your standards it isn't really good.

I totally agree with you. This is the problem with gamers and the industry these days. It's all about the scores, not what the reviewers have to say. Most reviewers have actually postponed their reviews until they experience all there is to MAG in the retail release. I'm also sure some reviews released now will be adjusted.

I think TheSixthAxis will be re-reviewing the game as well as one of the scores I linked in this thread.

Also the reviewers didn't postpone their reviews, Sony put an embargo on reviews so that the reviewers would actually have to play the retail release along with the users who purchased the title that way they can give a better review, but unfortunately it seems many ignored it.

Glad you agree with me that too many people worry about the score and not the actual review itself. This is why I don't like using metascores in arguments.

Well, I don't see too many reviews on metacritic. So frankly as long as it settles in the 80's range, I don't think any score nuts should fret about it. I know the game will sell well. And that's all that matters.

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Fixed the translation from the article if anyone was interested in reading the closing statement.

I also hope their "Failure to not have a single player still runs the risk of not achieving what they are trying for" isn't one of the reasons for the knockdown, because I am not sure if "ifs" qualify.

Anyways it doesn't sound like they are too fond of the game but they say the gameplay is good.

How can they dock points for no SP...thats like docking PS3 game because it doesnt play in the 360.

There are 2 things that i will completely disregard reviews of these types of games for.

1. Complain about no single player.
2. Complain about people not being good before the game streets.

It seems these are the main complaints which makes no sense.

Those two along with the ocassional graphics complaint is really all your going to find in terms of cons with these reviews which to me means the game is incredibly solid at what it set out to achieve.

They knew from the start it was MP only and it really is foolish to attack for something they knew it was never going to have. Sounds kind of like the NSMB Wii online complaint huh? This is why I wish people would read the reviews. People who were looking forward to MAG for the multiplayer would see that the game has very positive things said about it when it comes to that aspect.

7.5 lasting appeal for an online only game cant be good.

You said it, ... imo MAG isn't all that interesting anyway, it looks and plays like one of those generic year 2000 games.

Now if the right person reviews WKC: IE on IGN (Not one of those jrpg haters) watch how it gets somewhere around an' 8.5 to a 9 for lasting appealing, maybe a little higher.

Generic 2000 games? you mean like every FPS ever released since then?
