Read the preliminary sales, the PS3 could beat the Wii this week

I was on an english language learning forum the other day, and its just being flooded with Chinese...everyone had limited English skills, so I thought to ask them something and I said, who is better looking, Japanese woman or Chinese woman....without any exception they said Chinese women. That picture just proves they are correct.

OK, one picture doesn't prove anything, but my own anecdotal feeling is this is a major PS3 push, and I think we will see, next week, the PS3 doing its very best relative to other consoles.

I hope its enough to put PS3 on top....would be kind of cool to see for one week, even if it has no chance for the whole of the holiday season. I don't own a PS3, just kind of like the underdog story....yes, I know, the underdog who sold 120 million PS2's...but an underdog nevertheless.

Incorrect Kamil, its 36,000 total tops (31,000 being the 40GB)

I would be surprised if PS3 wins this week and until I see data i'm skeptical

Playstation 3 already outsold the Wii.

Playstation 3: 89.56 million.
Wii: 4.34 million.
Xbox 360: 12.34 million.
Sega Wonderbox: 99.45 million.

Wait until official figures before ranting and raving about it.

Our friends over at Gamer.tm are reporting that the new low-spec 40GB PlayStation 3 got off to a shaky start in Japan last week.

The new unit launched in Japan yesterday, and reports suggest around 31,000 units (37,000 PS3s in total) were sold. 0 While such a total will help the console topple the Wii and Xbox 360 for one week, it will hardly be the big bang Sony was hoping for.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper has claimed that no queues formed outside retailers, and that units are still widely available throughout the country. But with the Wii likely to have shifted around 32,000 units and the 360 around 14,000 units, it looks like Sony will be top dog when the figures for the last recorded week are published.

@Avinash: Have you read the German article? Actually it doesn't state clearly that they are talking 40GB sold. But the article is about 40Gb launch (they talk about 40Gb version in first part of article). In second part of article they state that 36k were sold of which 31 were white and 5 were black.

The 40GB versions are the white systems, the black are the older versions as I recall

Better, thanks, but still not confirmed (as it says likely shifted 32,000, not that it definetly sold 32,000) with the PS3 number only around 37,000 i'm going to want them to confirm it since its a small difference

*beep* wrong - the 40GB sku comes as a black and a white version - the original source in german said 36k 40GB sold on day one (31k white + 5 k black)

It is really funny how people like Avanishi gets mad because of potential PS3 leadership this and next week. C'mon dude it's only one week. Did you see PS3 owners crying over X360 success last week? Why do you find in such meaningless thing (+/- few k) a source of ultimate humilation?
