Forums - Nintendo Discussion - TvC - How do you feel about unlocking characters?

i like unlocking characters, but if a game is hyped up to have certain highly anticipated characters then i don't like it.

example of this is in Tat vs. Cap where neither Zero nor Frank West is available from the beginning. another one is Brawl where Sonic and Snake were'nt available either, though in brawl i didn't want to use them that badly and they didn't even turn out to be that great :p

I love unlocking characters myself.

Also, if they're actually complaining about unlocking characters, they must be pretty casual.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Doesn't bother me. It extends the value of the single player and gives me an excuse to play with various characters on the roster. Usually you have to play with certain characters you may not use to unlock another character that you would.

Wait, haven't we been unlocking fighters in fighting game since their inception? What's the big deal now?

The fact is the industry is spoiled, it started with modern day gamers and has worked its way to reviewers. Its the same ppl that complain about Random Battles, Graphics ext..just petty shit , i dont believe it lost a point for this

I remember those complaints from Brawl, too. It's a fighting game. Man up and do it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Really? That's the reference to complain about games now? Pffff I love unlocking characters.

In the Smash series that's one thing I really enjoy. Unlocking characters and stages. I think that's just an excuse.

I just don't get what is going on. Docking points for new characters? Docking points for unlocking them? Complaning about the removal of mini-games from a fighting game? Criticism of a simple yet deep control scheme?

What has the world come to? I know, the game got great ratings, excellent ratings, but these criticisms are near asinine! Did you have to make those up?

Yeah, I didn't want to overdo it, but here are the 3 cons they listed at the bottom of their review
here: http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/213680/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-ultimate-all-stars/

1. "Wii Remote/nunchuk controls feel very awkward"
(it should be noted the game CAN be played with the gamecube or classic controllers)

2. "many unfamiliar characters"
(which is something most fighting games are praised for)

3. "fan favorite characters require unlocking"
(which is what this thread is about)

This complaint was lodged against SSBB when it came out as well.
It seems as if people will find any reason to be critical -- especially if it is a game that does not fit their pre-conceived notions of the world.
