Not at all.  Call of duty combines with Halo: Reach (supposedly the definitive Halo) to create an extremely difficult environment for another shooter to survive.  But we have seen in past years that two can survive comfortably.  A third however, even one as high quality as a Gear's installment, could lead to all three suffering.

Got any proof of this? 

I saw Halo 3(10.74M), Call of Duty 4(8.14M), The Orange Box(1.02M) and Bioshock(2.42M) all flourish in late 2007.

I saw Far Cry 2(1.50M), Gears of War 2(5.53M), Call of Duty: World at War(6.16M) and Left 4 Dead(2.66M) all flourish in 2008.

I saw Halo 3: ODST(4.51M), Modern Warfare 2(9.17M) and Left 4 Dead 2(2.57M) all flourish just this past year.

Only time will tell, I suppose.  If I had more time, I'd consider picking up one of the 360 arcades that I've seen on sale recently for $99, but I can't even get through the PS3 games that I already have, and we hardly touch the Wii, so there's so point right now.  One thing I know is that both PS3 and 360 owners should be thrilled with the large list of quality games coming out this year.

The Wii's 2010 will be its best yet by far, as well. It's a crazy year for all home consoles, I suppose. Add to that some great PC games (most notably, Starcraft II), and it becomes clear one cannot possibly enjoy everything within this year... I certainly can't, anyway.


I'm kinda disappointed with the initial news (as great as that vid was), I wonder what his "face melting" news turns out to be.

As much as I love Gears, I hope they're working on something new. One every 2 years is kind of pushing it, I much prefer the 3 year cycles.

Imagine if Halo Reach, Gears 3 and Natal all release this fall, that would have to be the best lineup ever right there! not sure it will happen though.

Epic lead designer and director of Gears of War series. It means the first announcement of Gears of War 3. A huge meltdown if Gears of War 3 is a multi-platform title. Microsoft had secured only exclusive rights to the first two Gears of War games. Gears of War 3 could be heading for the PS3 as well as the 360. Possibly late 2010 or a 2011 release.

Gears of War 3 will have stiff opposition when it is released. In 2006 and 2008 the first two Gears of War faced two WW2 Cod games made by Treyarch who are considered not in the same league as Infinity Ward in regards to making games. COD 3 and COD:WaW IMO were average FPS games.

Epic's decision is to release Gears of War 3 against Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 3 in 2011 or take on the mighty Bungie with Halo:Reach in 2010. Either way it will be a tougher battle to win. Making the best shooter game of the year means a lot to the game developers.

Halo:Reach being launched in the same year as Gears of War 3 would adversely impact the sales of both games.

"megaton news" could be referring to a multiplat GeoW3. Interesting.
