Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid should have less liberty?

I think Retro actually found the perfect balance between freedom and linearity in the Prime games. I was never really lost, and there's this hint system that subtly tells you where to go if you spend too much time loitering about... To me, it was perfection.

I used to dislike this about Metroid back in the 2D days, but I got used to it with the 3D games.

The real title of the thread should be "Manuelf should buy a different game than Metroid?"  If you don't like the exploration sell the game and pick up something else, for sure.

No no and NO!!! What are you thinking asking for a downgrade?
Now your thread is broken. I hope you learned your lesson.

@ cheebee.

That is probably why Metoid Prime Trilogy is the only Platinum rated game on the Nintendo Channel (well in the UK anyway... the awards are region specific)

What I find funny is that the average playtime for the Trilogy is on par with MP3

It is? Wow didn't know that. I'll check it out sometime, see if it's the same here...

Well, Trilogy is absolutely brilliant, so not really surprising, but still.

It's not very clear on what each represents... I myself thought it might be that bronze = 80%+, silver = 85%+, Gold = 90%+ and Platinum = 95%+

DKII thought they might be lower than that though, and as they are user ratings he could be right.... often user ratings have a hard time getting to the heights that game reviewers inflate their scores to... but then the Nintendo channel community are in my view more likely to be honest about these things, because it is a channel for stats lovers, and the effort of going through the process to intentionally give it a low score seems like a lot compared to the ease with which internet polls can be abused... So I could be right.
I do suspect 90% is a Gold rating as the official nintendo magazine here in the UK always uses that mark for their gold awards.... though they are not so strictly tied to Nintendo as to make that any kind of proof.

The first time I looked at the map in MP1 it confused the fucking hell out of me. I got so lost while fleeing from the first level I actually died from time running out. That's pathetic.
