Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid should have less liberty?

I am playin Metroid Prime for the first time on the Metroid Prime Trilogy and I'm completely lost on what I need to do or where I need to go and the same is happening with Super Metroid on the Virtual Console, should they be more linear?

Take in mind that they are the first time that I play a Metroid game and I'm overwhelmed for the liberty you have on the games even thought they are some of the best looking games on their respective games.

In Prime you should be getting a prompt as to where to go next after a while.

Honestly though, there are plenty of linear games out there. Let us keep the non linear ones we have.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

yeah, in Metroid Prime I was sooooooo lost.

I suggest you play MP3 first, it's a lot more linear, maybe you'll get used to it for MP1 and 2.

Yes but I dont know how to reach that place

The open world scenario is what makes Metroid.... Metroid. Linear is for FPS. Metroid is FPA.

Take time to listen to the clues given to you and don't be afraid to check every nook and cranny. Also, use your maps and potentially take notes about what you found where.

You have to be a very good observer in order to know what to do, the clues are around!

Well the game is about exploration, you search about for the route while knowing the general direction. Usually it involves the use of a recently gained technology.

NEVER. It's what makes Metroid so awesome. Alone on an alien planet that has a shit ton of places to explore.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Check your map, it can be confusing at first, but check the places you haven't visited and the weapons you need to open the doors.
