Change the aspect ratio and turn on the smooth option if you have it on your TV, it evens the pixel edges somewhat.
errr I recall my PS2 making PS1 games better looking.... PS3 should do the same.
Not saying it won't be fugly, but it should be better than when ran on a PS1.
Now try it on an SD tv if you have one arround, that'll tell you if it's the HD or not.
