Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Top 10 Reasons Why the Wii is Very Successful

MikeB said:
1) Microsoft helping to kill PC gaming. Popular Microsoft PC franchises like Fable, Gears of War and Halo are nowadays only available for the XBox 360. Fans are provided no choice.

2) Pricing and reliability, it's cheaper than a Wii and especially old models break a lot. Several friends bought various revivions in the hope it would have less problems (more reliable, less noisy, less disc scratching, etc).

3) Somehow many people in the US actually like Microsoft and thus XBox, less so in other parts of the world. Mass advertising seems more effective there.

4) Microsoft buying Japanese exclusives. Many popular Japanese franchises first released on the 360, the 360 performs very weak in Japan, but it would have performed even weaker.

5) Microsoft buying exclusivity to multi-platform enginge based games.

6) Recommendation of bad coding practices which results in less optimised code as well as hinders porting to non-Microsoft platforms.

Hum... Is it me or you missed completely the point?

4. History of the company

5. Huge advertising

Has MikeB been a joke account all along? =O

Motion control + Games (Wii Sports & Wii Play) were the two most important things. Without one of those, it wouldn't have been a success.

I sometimes wonder if price was really a factor. The demand was so high at launch, people would've paid a lot more.

Wii Fit and the Balance board certainly was a part of the continued success as well.

It was because of word of mouth.

For instance why did Google became so popular? A friend or something would say, hey use Google it is really good the best search engine out there!

So the same for the Wii (the Wii is a video game console not a search engine ... incase you didn’t know :P).

Oh and people are Sheep xD MEEEHH!

@ Onyxmeth

Obviously wrong thread...

Anyway IMO with regard to the Wii:

1) Cute in terms of form factor and gaming image => popular amongst kids, parents and females.
2) Interesting quite unique control scheme.
3) Untapped markets (Wii Fit and such).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
