I'd think the next gen name would be something like:

home console:

-Nintendo ESh (Nintendo Entertainment System home)

portable console:

-Nintendo ESp (Nintendo Entertainment System portable)

They will both be released 2011. NESp in sept and NESh in nov that year.

I wouldn't call the succesor of the DS "Beta", because that sounds just like a test version. But Nintendo Alpha doesn't sound that bad.
