Forums - Sony Discussion - First 9min of Heavy Rain (SPOILERS!!!)

Beautiful graphics, beautiful music, the entire feel of the game is completely different from other games. I don't know why, but I was captivated for the entire 9 minutes, even though I was apprehensive from all the comments in this thread. I guess Heavy Rain is my next Shenmue.

The video in the OP is for the first 9 minutes & the first 9 minutes seemed slightly disappointing, I never stated the whole game would be disappointing because of it.

 

I heard the first 8 hours of FXIII is quite lack luster aswell.

I have heard they are not from importers on VGChartz.

I am not particulary excited by this game, but I think it's unfair to call the game boring. It's not action packed, but it's not meant to be. Drinking orange juice is not the most amazing thing, but it's part of the experience, part of the build up of the story, and that is what this game is all about I guess, the story. See it more as a book than as a game and it won't seem so boring.

It is. Cage said the game wouldn't just throw you in just off the bat. The beginning was meant as a tutorial. Regardless, I agree that this isn't exciting, although that's subjective in what is 'exciting or not'. But since it's the first 9 minutes of a game with 20 endings and a 12-hour play time, I think this isn't really indicative of the full experience. Besides, this game isn't trying to do what others have already done. It's supposed to be fresh/new/innovative and it doesn't seem, even during those first few minutes, to lack in any of those areas.

A game not for everyone but certainly a game for me.

So as tutorials teach me how to play the game will I have to remember how to brush my teeth, open the fridge, shake the orange juice, pick up a photo frame & so on or will those icons indicating what button I need to press to interact with the environment always be there? Because I dunno how easy it will be to remember specific button movements.

It subjective whats exciting & what isn't yes, that doesn't mean people who thought this was boring should suddenly be called FPS nerds & people who can't like a game without explosions, thats a bit silly (you didn't say this but others did).

Take the tutorial as a way of getting comfortable with the controls, rather than the content on the screen. The entire experience evolves throuoght the the story, but getting you comfortable with the feel of the controls is what he is aiming for here. I'm not saying you're going to like/love it. I am just letting you know what the purpose of this scene is, while it still applies to the story.

Ok that was my worry, when some of you said tutorial I thought I was gonna have to remember the controls & how interact with different objects as the tutorial usually makes you learn the controls. It seems here the approch is more of a "getting used to" the way the characters move & what interactions you can do which is good as the gameplay will be quite different from the norm.

Am just saying if I can overlook those 9 minutes, you can get to greater things.

I believe those 9 minutes is meant to set a feel on how we can relate to those characters, we can all relate to the things the characters are doing and feeling. It's meant to be a empathic emotional rollercoaster. Were meant to see how ordinary people can face terrible situations, and those 9 minutes I believe sets us up for it.

Here is another video of the game, should help some people judge the game fairly. Watch the entire video, and make sure to watch the game play at the end. Please not that the gameplay at the end was running throught the Qore app for the PS, so the popups that you see wont be in the actual game.

1. Where did I state those 9 minutes mean the game is boring?

2. Where did I say the first 9 minutes were a deal breaker?

3. The game really doesn't set us up for an emotional rollercoaster ride in those 9 minutes, having a shower, shaking orange juice didn't really set me for a game that shows us how ordinary people can face terrible situations, I'll disagree with that sorry.

WHOA!!! so when one of the  character dies the game still continues without him/her and the whole flow of the story changes? thats awsome!!!



If they use that 9min tutorial video I posted for the DEMO then I have a feeling a lot of ppl will dispise it.
