Forums - Sales Discussion - Oblivion & Gears of War, made the Xbox 360 the success it is today?

I bought Bioshock first for my 360, but my second game was Gears of War. I liked the game, but I bought it in Aug. of 07 and it was the first time that I played it online. I got my ass royaly stomped. I was leary of playing online until after I bought Call of Duty 4. It was a great game, but a very difficult game to master. That is why I think the game has not done even more than it has. Gears 2 is one of the best games that I have played this gen. It is very difficult to master. Horde is the best thing that has happened to video games in a long time. Firefight copied a little bit off of Gears 2, but it is still awesome. In the end............... at least for Gears, I agree with you. Gears for life!!!!!!!

Gears of War set the 360 up as the console of choice for FPS games.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Well, I would say the adverts for Gears of War were the most important thing. I can't hear anything even similar to that music without having a sudden strong craving to play Gears of War

That statement is wrong and I will not accept it.

They were the only reason I got an Xbox 360 at the time, so I would say yes.

I agree. I believe Oblivion was a system seller in 2006.

Obilivion was a huge seller for the 360.

I remember waiting in line on November 21st 2005 for the 360...Most of the gamers bought the 360 for Oblivion, which was supposed to be a launch title but got moved.

Gears was also a big title in 06. Sold almost 2 million copies according to NPD in November-December of 2006...That was huge for the 360.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I'd say Gears of War is when the xbox really took off. It set the standard for current generation graphics.

Sony made Xbox 360 what it is today. Most people, myself included, were more than happy to wait for a PS3. It didn't matter what Microsoft was bringing. It just took a lot longer for the PS3 to start delivering on its promise. With Sony's every mistake magnified by the press, the Xbox 360 was looking mighty good.

The field is much more level, now.
